M <br />April 12, 1965 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of,Public Safety was held on Monday, April <br />12, 1965 at 10:00 A.ML. All members were present. Minutes of the last <br />regular meeting were read and approved. No vouchers were approved for <br />payment. <br />POLICE DEPARTT�,IENT APPOIn,,41ENT: PAUL D. ITARVEY <br />Paul Douglas Harvey having met all of the requirements for appointment to <br />the Police Department, and there being a vacancy on said Department, the <br />said Paul Douglas Harvey is now appointed to the Police Department, effective <br />this date, April 12, 1965. <br />POLICE DEPAQTTvIENT RE, TIF0vT_FNT: ( SGT, , C, PARFITT ) <br />Upon the request of Sergeant C. Parfitt the Board approved the retirement <br />of Sergeant Parfitt from the Police Department after having served 20 <br />t- years on the Department on April 23, 1965. <br />x Sprgeant Parfitt requested that he start his terminal leave on April 16 <br />through -April 30, 1965 and that his retirement be effective as of May 1, <br />1965. <br />The above request was also approved by the Board. <br />REQUEST:, POLICE DEPARMNT REPRESENTATION AT BLOSSMI PARADE, BENTON HARBOR, <br />MICHIGAN <br />Upon the request of Police Chief Hampton, the Board approved the participation <br />of the Police Department in the Blossom Parade in Benton Harbor, Michigan <br />on May 8, 1965. <br />Chief Hampton requested permission to send three units <br />to Benton Harbor <br />to represent the City of South Bend in the parade. <br />The <br />selected units <br />will be one squad car and two solo motorcycles. At <br />this <br />time it is planned <br />to send the solos via trailer to Benton. Harbor. <br />POLICE DEPARTIJENT REPORT: SICK TIMFE OVER THIRTY DAYS ( <br />OFFICER SWEITZER <br />Chief Hampton submitted a Report of Sick Time over <br />Thirty Days for Officer <br />James Sweitzer who was shot While on duty on March <br />11, <br />1965 and is still <br />unable to report for work. <br />The Report was approved by the Board. <br />CANCELLATION OF SPECIAL POLICE 0221USSION ( WILLLW PENN <br />Chief Hampton reported to the Board that William Penn, special police T-Tho <br />has been self-employed, had failed to renew his Special Police Bond. All <br />efforts of the Police Department requesting William Penn to renew the <br />Bond had failed and letters had been ignored. <br />Under these circumstances, Chief Hampton requested that the Commission <br />be cancelled. A police officer had contacted Ins. Penn and picked up <br />his badgewhichChief Hampton returned to the Board. <br />Following this recommendation, the Board approved the cancellation of <br />the Special Police Commission. <br />SPECIAL POLICE BOND ( ELLI ) <br />The Board approved a Special Police Bond for Dennis James Elli, employed <br />by the American District Telegraph Co., Inc. The Commission was approved <br />previously. <br />APPLICATION: POLICE Drh'PARU,..'.FN'J ( WHITAKER ) <br />An application for the Pol-ice Department from Dwight Larry Whitaker was <br />accepted and ordered placed on file. <br />
