January 26, 1970 <br />C) <br />L.3 <br />1 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety con- <br />vened at 9:30 A.M. on January 26, 1970, with all members pre- <br />sent. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and <br />approved. <br />BIDS FOR CAPACITORS FOR MUNICIPAL SERVICES FACILITY <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried unanimously, all bids re- <br />ceived for Capacitors for the Municipal Services Facility were <br />rejected and to be returned without opening, to be readvertised <br />on January 30, 1970 and February 6, 1970, with February 9, <br />1970 set as the date for the opening of the bids. <br />OPEN BIDS - TWO-WAY RADIOS FOR VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for two-way radios <br />for various departments, the Clerk tendered proofs of publica- <br />tion in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on <br />January 9 and January 16, 1970, which were read and found to <br />be sufficient. <br />Bids were opened. Non Collusion affidavits were examined and <br />found to be proper. Each bid was accompanied by a bid bond, of <br />not less than 101% of the bid. Bids were as follows: <br />Motorola Communications and <br />Electronics, Inc. <br />1301 E. Algonquin Road <br />Schaumburg, Illinois <br />Total Bid ------------ "$18,595.00 <br />General Electric Company <br />3750 N. Meridian Street, Room-107 <br />Indianapolis, Indiana - <br />Total Bid-----------$23,431.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bids <br />were referred to the City Engineer and the Radio Department <br />for review and recommendation. <br />RETIREMENTS -FIRE -DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board <br />approved the retirement request, from the South Bend Fire De- <br />partment, of Battalion Chief Alexander Nagy, effective <br />January 31, 1970, having completed twenty-two years of service. <br />REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF UNIFORM - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board <br />approved the request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat to change <br />the work uniform of -the personnel of the Fire Department. A <br />light blue shirt with a Fire Department shoulder patch would <br />be the only change. The trousers would remain the same, a <br />dark blue. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Appointments to Police Department: Upon motion made, seconded <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation <br />of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the appointment of the <br />following men to the Police Department, effective January 26, <br />1970. <br />Dennis Swanson <br />
