January 19, 1970. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on January 19, 1970, with S:'J. Crumpacker and James A. Bickel present. <br />Mr. Crumpacker.acted as chairman of the. meeting. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPEN BIDS FOR CAPACITORS FOR MUNICIPAL -SERVICES FACILITY <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for capacitors for Municipal <br />Services,Facility, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri County News on January 9 and January 16, 1970, which were <br />read and found to be proper. <br />The Clerk reported two bids were received. Only one (Colip Brothers, Inc.) <br />being located, the motion was made, seconded and carried to postpone the <br />opening of bids until January 26, 1970. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed <br />with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for -further processing: <br />Michael Benedict Meller <br />Robert Xavier Quinn III <br />REQUEST FOR.TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />In reference to the request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for a transfer <br />of funds in the amount of $4,027.00 from the General Fund to Account #0-726 (other <br />equipment), it was moved, seconded and carried that $4,028.00 be transferred <br />from Account #P-11 (services personal) to Account #P-726 (other equipment). <br />And the request was referred to the Legal Department for the preparation of <br />an ordinance for the consideration of the Common Council. <br />APPOINTMENTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation <br />of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the appointment of the following <br />applicants for cadet training, effective January 19, 1970: <br />Brent R. Hemmerlein <br />Allen T. Hildebrand <br />Christopher A. Hoffman <br />Kenneth Edward McDonald, Jr. <br />APPOINTMENT CONFIRMED - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The appointment of David Harry Shock to the South Bend Police Department <br />effective January 16, 1970, approved by the Board on January 16, 1970, is <br />made of record in the minutes of this meeting. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Department <br />were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Ken Joseph Van Nevel <br />Leo Henry Verhaegen <br />John Martin Lukaszewski <br />STATISTICAL REPORTS FILED - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Statistical reports for December 1969 and the annual report for 1969 for the <br />Police Department were reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. <br />TELEPHONE CHANGES APPROVED - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved telephone changes <br />for the Po?ice Department, as submitted Januaryl2, 1970 by the Indiana Bell <br />Telephone Company to Building Commissioner Forrest West, as follows: <br />r <br />
