January 19, 1970. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., on January 19, 1970, with S:'J. Crumpacker and James A. Bickel present. Mr. Crumpacker.acted as chairman of the. meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. OPEN BIDS FOR CAPACITORS FOR MUNICIPAL -SERVICES FACILITY This being the date set for receiving bids for capacitors for Municipal Services,Facility, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on January 9 and January 16, 1970, which were read and found to be proper. The Clerk reported two bids were received. Only one (Colip Brothers, Inc.) being located, the motion was made, seconded and carried to postpone the opening of bids until January 26, 1970. APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for -further processing: Michael Benedict Meller Robert Xavier Quinn III REQUEST FOR.TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT In reference to the request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for a transfer of funds in the amount of $4,027.00 from the General Fund to Account #0-726 (other equipment), it was moved, seconded and carried that $4,028.00 be transferred from Account #P-11 (services personal) to Account #P-726 (other equipment). And the request was referred to the Legal Department for the preparation of an ordinance for the consideration of the Common Council. APPOINTMENTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the appointment of the following applicants for cadet training, effective January 19, 1970: Brent R. Hemmerlein Allen T. Hildebrand Christopher A. Hoffman Kenneth Edward McDonald, Jr. APPOINTMENT CONFIRMED - POLICE DEPARTMENT The appointment of David Harry Shock to the South Bend Police Department effective January 16, 1970, approved by the Board on January 16, 1970, is made of record in the minutes of this meeting. APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Ken Joseph Van Nevel Leo Henry Verhaegen John Martin Lukaszewski STATISTICAL REPORTS FILED - POLICE DEPARTMENT Statistical reports for December 1969 and the annual report for 1969 for the Police Department were reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. TELEPHONE CHANGES APPROVED - POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved telephone changes for the Po?ice Department, as submitted Januaryl2, 1970 by the Indiana Bell Telephone Company to Building Commissioner Forrest West, as follows: r
