1298 October 27, 1969. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M. on October 27, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. OPEN BIDS - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3283 - FELLOWS STREET SEWER This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of South Fellows Street, from Barbie Street south to Ireland Road, and Walters Street to approximately 500 feet of Fellows Street, by constructing a local sewer, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on October 17 and October 24, 1969, which were read and found to be sufficient. Bids were opened. Non collusion affidavits were examined and found to be proper. Each bid was accompanied by a bid bond of 5% of the total bid, together with financial statement Form 96-a. Bids were as follows: H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor, Inc. 2540 W. Sixtb Street Mishawaka, Indiana Total bid---------------------------------------------$21,332.50 Howell Construction Co., Inc. III E. Windsor Street Elkhart, Indiana, 46514 Total bid---------------------------------------------$34,858.00 Dye Plumbing and Heating 712 Madison Striedt LaPorte, Indiana, 46350 Totalbid---------------------------------------------$29,617.99 Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bids were referred to the City Engineer for study and recommendation. RETIREMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upo potion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the re ement from the South Bend Fire Department of Robert A. Brown, effective October 26, 1969, having completed 20 years of service; and the retirement of Clayton Wroblewski, effective October 26, 1969, having completed 20 years of service. REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat to advertise for bids for the follow- ing: Custom built motorized 100 foot aerial (tractor drawn). Custom built motorized 1500 gallon pumping fire engine (to include one articulating boom water tower; squirt or equal). Custom built motorized 1500 gallon pumping fire engine. only one of which is to be purchased, depending on funds available. December 8, 1969, was set as the time for receiving bids, and the Clerk was directed to advertise by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on October 31 and November 7, 1969. APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT Application for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department of Stephen Botka, Jr., was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing.
