1298 <br />October 27, 1969. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on October 27, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPEN BIDS - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3283 - FELLOWS STREET SEWER <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of South <br />Fellows Street, from Barbie Street south to Ireland Road, and Walters Street <br />to approximately 500 feet of Fellows Street, by constructing a local sewer, <br />the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the <br />Tri County News on October 17 and October 24, 1969, which were read and <br />found to be sufficient. <br />Bids were opened. Non collusion affidavits were examined and found to be proper. <br />Each bid was accompanied by a bid bond of 5% of the total bid, together <br />with financial statement Form 96-a. Windsor Street <br />Elkhart, Indiana, 46514 <br />Total bid---------------------------------------------$34,858.00 <br />Dye Plumbing and Heating <br />712 Madison Striedt <br />LaPorte, Indiana, 46350 <br />Totalbid---------------------------------------------$29,617.99 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bids were referred to <br />the City Engineer for study and recommendation. <br />RETIREMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upo potion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />re ement from the South Bend Fire Department of Robert A. Brown, effective <br />October 26, 1969, having completed 20 years of service; and the retirement <br />of Clayton Wroblewski, effective October 26, 1969, having completed 20 years <br />of service. <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat to advertise for bids for the follow- <br />ing: <br />Custom built motorized 100 foot aerial (tractor drawn). <br />Custom built motorized 1500 gallon pumping fire engine <br />(to include one articulating boom water tower; squirt <br />or equal). <br />Custom built motorized 1500 gallon pumping fire engine. <br />only one of which is to be purchased, depending on funds available. <br />December 8, 1969, was set as the time for receiving bids, and the Clerk was <br />directed to advertise by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri <br />County News on October 31 and November 7, 1969. <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Application for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department of Stephen Botka, <br />Jr., was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing. <br />
