<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety met at 9:30 A.M.,
<br />on September 29, 1969. Present were S. J. Crumpacker, City Attorney, and
<br />Lloyd S. Taylor, City Engineer. The minutes of the previous meeting were
<br />reviewed and approved.
<br />FINAL ADOPTION OF ASSESSMENT ROLL - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3259 1968
<br />HARTMAN DRIVE (SEWER
<br />Hearing on the assessment roll in Improvement Resolution No. 3259, 1968, being
<br />for the improvement of Hartman Drive, from Rosemary Lane to dead end, and
<br />Rosemary Lane from Peachtree to Hartman Drive, by constructing a local sewer,
<br />having been continued on September 9, 1969, and reset for hearing on September
<br />29, 1969, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune
<br />and the Tri County News on September 12 and September 19, 1969, which were
<br />found to be proper.
<br />No one having appeared further, either for or against said assessment roll,
<br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, the assessment roll adopted by the
<br />Board on August 4, 1969, was in all things confirmed.
<br />REQUEST TO TRIM TREES - OHIO AND KEASEY STREETS
<br />Mrs. Irene Stewart, 610 E. Ohio Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before
<br />the Board to request that trees on Ohio and Keasey Streets, between Fellows
<br />and Marietta, be trimmed for better street lighting. Upon motion made,
<br />seconded and carried, the request was referred to Traffic Engineering for
<br />attention.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board recessed at 9:40 A.M. and
<br />reconvened at 11:30 A.M.
<br />REQUEST TO ATTEND SEMINAR - FIREMAN CARL ZWIERZYNSKI
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of
<br />Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for Lt. Carl Zwierzynski of the Radio Department
<br />to attend the General Electric Mobile Radio Department's annual Indiana
<br />technical training field seminar in Kokomo, Indiana, October 16 and 17, 1969.
<br />REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO TAG FIRE HYDRANTS DURING "FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of
<br />Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat to put "plug for fire safety" cards on fire
<br />hydrants during "Fire Prevention Week" from October 5 through October 11,
<br />1969.
<br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - CHARLES H. BOURGON
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board, upon the recommendation
<br />of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat, accepted and approved the retirement of Charles
<br />H. Bourgon, effective October 1, 1969, fireman Bourgon having been appointed
<br />to the Fire Department March 1, 1949, and having served more than 20 years.
<br />RESIGNATION FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - KIRK A. BANACKA
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, and upon the recommendation of
<br />Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat, the resignation of Kirk A. Banacka from the Fire
<br />Department was accepted and approved by the Board, effective September 30, 1969.
<br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT
<br />The application of Richard E. Splawski for appointment to the South Bend Fire
<br />Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director
<br />for further processing.
<br />APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT - PATRICK DONALD COTTRELL
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation
<br />of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the appointment of Patrick Donald
<br />Cottrell to the South Bend Police Department, effective October 1, 1969.
<br />REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT ($2302.95)
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of
<br />Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the transfer of $2302.95 from the General
