September 15, 1969. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety met at 9:30 A.M. on September 15, 1969, with Lloyd S. Taylor and S. J. Crumpacker present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. OPEN BIDS FOR SPOTLIGHT - MORRIS CIVIC AUDITORIUM This being the date set for receiving.bids for a super trouper spot light for Morris Civic Auditorium, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on September 5 and September 12, 1969, which were read -and found to be proper. The only bid received Was from Abbott Theatre Equipment Company, 1311 S. Wabash, Chicago, Illinois, which was opened. Non collusion affidavit was found to be proper and certified check in the amount.of $242.95 found to be sufficient. The bid, in the amount of $2,429.50 Appearing to be reasonable, upon motion made, seconded and carried, was accepted and contract signed by the Board. FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel'Director for further processing: Richard Charles Calloway 1„7 John Michael Cz.akany David Thomas Nowakowski Retirement - George S. Ladewski Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted and approved the application for retirement from the Fire Department of George S. Ladewski, effective September 15, 1969, Mr. Ladewski having been appointed September 13, 1949, and having served 20 years. POLICE DEPARTMENT Applications for appointment Appt,.ications:for,appointment.:to the Police Department as follows: Kathryn Marie Anderson Gerard Delchambre Lawrence August Dutoi Patrick John Sharpe were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. Appointment - William Humphries Upon motion made, seconded and carried, and the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, the Board approved the appointment of William Humphries to the South Bend Police Department, effective September 16, 1969. Statistical report for August, 1969 Statistical report of the Police Department for August, 1969, was reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION Forrest West, /Building Commissioner, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up: 715 Marietta Street. Mrs. Lottie King, owner, appeared before the Board and reported that the garage at these premises has been burned, and that she is still trying to clean up the property. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, an extension of four weeks was given Mrs. King in which to do the necessary.
