8/11/69 <br />BIDS FOR SPOT LIGHT - MORRIS CIVIC AUDITORIUM <br />Bids having been accepted August 4, 1969, and referred to Floyd M. Jessup, <br />Manager, and the only bid received from Ger-Bar.. Inc. it was moved, seconded <br />and carried that since there was only one bid received, this should be re - <br />advertised and bids taken at a later date. Ger-Bar, Inc. bid therefore is <br />rejected. <br />HERMAN LIGHTHALL- COMPLAINT AND CLAIMS OF DAMAGE <br />Herman Lighthall of 1428 Howard appeared before the board regarding sewer <br />stoppage and makes claim of damage. This matter having been previously in- <br />vestigated by the Legal Department and referred to the insurance carrier, <br />liability was denied again by the City and Mr. Lighthall referred back to the <br />insurance carrier. <br />NORTH CARLISLE - CCflUIPLAINT OF JANET ALIEN <br />Councilman Allen appeared to lodge complaint of broken concrete dumped in a <br />vacant lot on North Carlisle. The Engineering department was aware of this <br />and it has been referred to the Street Department for clean up. This lot is <br />not owned by the City but since the residents of the area know who dumped the <br />load and no one will say, the Street department will clean it up. <br />McKELVEY - 231 E. Fox St.- COMPLAINT OF 227 E. FOX STREET <br />Mr. McKelvey appeared to complain of the conditions of the residence at 227 E. <br />Fox Street. Mr. Adamaon of Sub -Standards was aware of the problem and informed <br />the Board that the residents of this property are being moved by the Relocation <br />Department and their possessions and the building will be completely fumigated. <br />Inspectors of Sub -Standard and the Health Department report of the highly un- <br />sanitary conditions existing and the situation is being dealt with as rapidly <br />as possible. <br />224 Laurel Street - SYLAS WEST CMPLAINT <br />Mr. West of the Urban League asked what was being done and Sub -Standard reported <br />Relocation Department and the Health Department would be notified of the condition. <br />BUILDING DEPT. - Sub -Standard <br />438-444 LASaI16,Ave�;: Madelyn Van Lake appeared to answer a request of the <br />board to show cause why the necessary action had not been taken on this building. <br />She informed the Board she owned this property jointly with her brother Maurice <br />VanDeVelde of 215 Villageway, South Bend. Mrs. VanLake asked for an extension <br />of time as she has several offers to sell. She was instructed to secure the <br />building as it is vacant and safety and fire hazards exist. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried this matter was continued one week and the Sub -Standard <br />department is instructed to notify both Mrs. Van Lake and her brother Mr. Van <br />DeVelde to appear. Sub -Standard is also to go to the Abstract Co. and determine <br />actual ownership on the building. <br />136 N. Notre Dame: A communication from Mr. Krueper, owner, was read stating <br />this property is owned jointly by three people and all agree on demolition. Sub- <br />standard is to be notified of contract. Mr. Adamson reports the building wide <br />open and exposed. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, this matter is con-' <br />tinued one week to allow owners to take action needed. - <br />1213 W. Indiana Ave.: Communication read of Douglas Caton, owner, giving his <br />consent to demolishment. Upon motion made, seconded and carried Sub -Standard <br />is authorized to seek bids for demolition of the property. It was pointed out <br />that there had been an explosion and the house and debris is spread out over <br />the lot. Due to emergency existing, Sub -standard was authorized not to wait <br />the two weeks for advertising but to take the bids August 18, 1969. <br />217 N. St. Peter: Mr. Taylor, City Engineer, having personally viewed this <br />building considers it a house to good to be demolished. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried since owners show no interest and the building is open <br />and exposed, Sub -standard was authorized to seek bids for demolition. <br />2133 Merry Avenue: No reply was received from notice to owners and the return <br />receipt of certified mail was not received. Sub -Standards reports a fire on <br />June 6, 1969, leaving building open and unsafe with 40% destroyed by the fire. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried Sub -Standard is authorized to seek bids <br />for demolition. <br />
