0 <br />July 21, 1969 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was held at 9:30 <br />A.M., with all members present. The -minutes of the previous meeting were <br />reviewed and approved. <br />REQUEST LEAVE FOR MILITARY DUTY - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the following men to be excused <br />from duty for military service: <br />Douglas Parmley, Larry Nitka and Larry Szczepanski - from <br />July 26 to August 9, 1969; <br />Charles Steele and John Nelson - from August 9 to August 23, 1969. <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Application of Ronald Frederick DeLee for appointment to the Fire Department <br />was filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. <br />REQUEST TO TAKE POLICE CAR #74 TO FORT WAYNE <br />The request of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton on July 17, 1969, for <br />permission to send Police -Car #74 to Fort Wayne Saturday, July 19, Sunday <br />July 20 or Monday July 21, 1969, approved by the Board on July 18, 1969, is <br />hereby confirmed and made of record. The trip is being made in respect to <br />a police officer killed in the -line of duty. <br />APPOINTMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton for the appointment <br />of William Allen Molnar to the South Bend Police Department, effective <br />July 16, 1969. <br />REQUEST FOR POLICE OFFICERS TO ATTEND NARCOTICS SCHOOL <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request for officers Richard P. Thomas and Jerry Szweda to attend the School <br />on Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, sponsored by the U. S. Department of Justice, <br />in Detroit, Michigan, July 21 through August 1, 1969, and to use Mechanical <br />#41 for the trip. <br />APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton for the appointment <br />of George Krovitch, Jr., as a special police officer. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were <br />filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing:. <br />Harold Brett Frenger <br />Rose Ann Glon <br />Gerald John Rutkowski <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />1818 W. Indiana Avenue. John Blenke, one of the owners of this property, <br />appeared before the Board 7/14/69 instead of this date as requested. The <br />property is being rehabilitated. <br />1820 S. Taylor. Mrs. Alex Zakrowski, owner of this property; appeared before <br />the Board as requested. Mr. Adamson stated this house is closed but still <br />is in a sub -standard condition. Mrs. Zakrowski explained that due to illness <br />they had been unable to complete the repairs as expected. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, upon condition that the weeds are cut and <br />the premises kept clean, an additional 120 days was granted to permit the <br />owners to repair the property. <br />
