119 <br />July 14, 1969 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35 <br />A.M., on July 14, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of previous <br />meetings were reviewed and approbed. <br />OPEN BIDS - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTIO N.NO. 3 M - PRAST BOULEVARD. <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of Prast <br />Boulevard, from Johnson Street to Huey Street,'by constructing a Class C <br />pavement with curb repair, the Clerk,tendered proofs of publication in the <br />South Bend Tribune and the•Tri County -News, which were examined and found <br />to be sufficient. <br />Bids were opened; non collusion affidavits were found to be proper; and bid <br />bonds in the amount of 5% of the total bids were found to be sufficient. <br />Bids were as follows: <br />Rieth Riley Construction Co., Inc. <br />P. O..Box 775 <br />South.Bend, Indiana <br />Bituminous Materials Co., Inc. <br />2015 Western Avenue <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />- Type 111-A - .$8,232.35 <br />- Type IV - $6,281.20 <br />- Type 111-A - $8,197.75 <br />- Type IV - $6,243.00 <br />There being no further bids, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the bids were referred to the consulting engineer, Clyde E. Williams <br />& Associates, Inc., for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />2207 Smith Street. Leon Little, representing the National Bank and Trust Company, <br />appeared before the Board. Mr. Little stated the National Bank and Trust <br />Company is the owner of this property through a mortgage foreclosure; that <br />they hope to sell the property and have a prospective buyer. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued one week to <br />permit the Bank to decide what they intend to do with the property. <br />318 N. Cushing Street.. Mrs. Parcher appeared before the Board, as requested, <br />and stated that her father's estate has been closed and she is now the owner <br />of the property; and that she intends to rehabilitate it. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued 30 days to permit <br />Mrs. Parcher to close up the premises and clean up the debris. <br />223 N. Adams.Street.•, Rose Scruggs, one of the owners of this property (who <br />failed to appear before the Board on Junec30, 1969, as requested) appeared <br />before the Board. Mr.*Adamson stated this property is in bad condition, al- <br />though presently closed up. Mrs. Scruggs stated she wants to rehabilitate <br />the property. Upon motion made, seconded?,and unanimously carried, an additional <br />two weeks was extended for the owner to make a final decision regarding the <br />property. (Permission was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of <br />this property on June 30, 1969, and Mr. Adamson stated bids have been re- <br />ceived for opening this date.) <br />506 Cushin,gs Street. Mr. Adamson reported the owner of this property is <br />tearing it down himself. <br />414 Pennsylvania Street. The request of Mr. Hartman,.Elkhart, Indiana, land <br />contract buyer of this property, who appeared before the Board, for two weeks <br />additional time, was denied by the Board. <br />1814 S. St. J oseph Street. Alice Walters did not appear -as requested. It <br />was moved, seconded and unanimously carried, to continue the matter one week <br />for further investigation as to ownership. <br />1 <br />G <br />
