July 7, 1969 <br />A regular meeting of the Board cf Public Works and Safety convened at 9;30 <br />A.M., on July 7, 1969, with all members present. <br />UNION CONTRACT SIGNED - STREET DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the Board approved and <br />executed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Public Works <br />and Safety on behalf of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana, and Chauffeurs, <br />Teamsters and Helpers Local Union No. 364 represeAti.ng members of the South <br />Bend Street Department. <br />Said memorandum of understanding sets forth certain benefits proposed by <br />the Union for the benefit of Street Department employees, and agreed to by <br />the Board, subject to the approval of the Common Council, effective July 7, <br />1969, and continuing in effect until cancelled by either party upon 60 days <br />written notice prior to April 30th of any year. <br />C Said agreement is on file in the office of the Board of Public Works and <br />Safety, a copy on file with the City Controller, and a copy on file with <br />the Street Department. <br />UNION CONTRACT SIGNED - SANITATION DEPARTMENT <br />On condition that the Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers Local Union No. 364 <br />shall provide the Board of Public Works and Safety with a letter stating <br />that paragraph (a) of ARTICLE 9 of the Sanitation Department agreement - <br />shall be interpreted as being the same as paragraph (a) of ARTICLE 9 of <br />the Street Department agreement; and shall also provide in the Sanitation <br />Department Agreement that the last paragraph of Article 15 of the Street De- <br />partment agreement having to do with seasonal employees shall also apply <br />to the Sanitation Department Agreement, <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved and. <br />executed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Public Works <br />and Safety, on behalf of the Civil City of South Bend, Indiana, and <br />Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers Local Union No. 364, representing members <br />of the South Bend Street Department. - <br />Said Memorandum of Understanding sets forth certain benefits proposed by <br />the Union for the benefit of Sanitation Department employees, and agreed <br />to by the Board, subject to approval of the Common Council where necessary, <br />effective July 7, 1969, and continuing in effect until cancelled by either <br />party upon 60 days written notice prior to April 30th of any year. <br />Said Agreement is on file in the office of the Board of Public Works and <br />Safety, a copy on file with the City Controller, and a copy on file with <br />the Sanitation Department. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - ,SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up; <br />661 LaPorte Avenue. Mr. Adamson -stated this property is unsightly, a health <br />hazard and dangerous, and that the general area is in a deplorable condition. <br />Dan Clemans, owner of the property, appeared before the Bberd, and agreed <br />that the property is unsightly and stated he would clean up the premises <br />and remove some scaffolding. Upon motion made seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the matter was continued for two weeks. <br />417 William Street. Jack Shapiro did not appear as requested. Mr. Adamson <br />submitted a letter from Mr. Shapiro giving permission for the house and garage <br />to be demolished. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carrie,d per- <br />mission was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the premises. <br />
