<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30
<br />A.M.,. on June 30, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the
<br />previous meetings.were reviewed and approved.
<br />COMPLAINT AGAINST PROPERTY AT 1818 W. INDIANA AVENUE
<br />Mrs. Susan Safrit, 1822 W. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, appeared
<br />before the Board and presented a complaint signed by some 50 residents
<br />concerning the open and decaying condition of the property at '1818 West
<br />Indiana Avenue. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the
<br />matter was referred to the Sub -Standards Division for investigation and
<br />report to the Board, on July 7, 1969.
<br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - CARL B. LEDERER
<br />Upon mot'ion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted
<br />and approved the application and declaration for retirement from the Fire
<br />Department of Carl B. Lederer, effective July 2, 1969, Mr. Lederer having
<br />been appointed to the Department August 1, 1939 and' having completed
<br />over 29 years of service.
<br />REQUEST LEAVE FOR MILITARY DUTY - POLICE DEPARTMENT - BRASSELL AND NYBO
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />request of J-. Brassell to be excused for military duty at Camp McCoy,
<br />Wisconsin from August 2, to August 16, 1969; and the request of E. Nybo
<br />to be excused for military duty at Camp Grayling, Michigan, from July 26,
<br />to August 9, 1969.
<br />WEIGHTS & MEASURES DEPARTMENT - MONTHLY REPORT
<br />Bert Cichowicz, City Sealer, appeared before the Board and presented his
<br />monthly report for May, 1969, and called particular attention to the progress
<br />being made regarding the.packaging of foods under the Fair Packaging and
<br />Labeling Act of 1966.
<br />COMPLAINT AGAINST WHITE FORD LEASING COMPANY
<br />A complaint signed by Edward Petrowski, 2021 W. Sample Street, and 23 other
<br />residents of the neighborhood, against the White Ford Leasing Company,
<br />2222 W. Sample Street, regarding dust and dirt from its parking lot "causing
<br />danger to health, comfort and safety of persons in the area, and to visibility
<br />of traffic on Sample Street," was filed with the Board and,`upon motion made,
<br />seconded and unanimously carried, was referred to the Building Department
<br />for investigation and recommendation.
<br />COMMUNICATION FROM JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SOUTH BEND

<br />A communication from Mrs. J. Harold Sunderlin, on behalf of the Junior League
<br />of South Bend, expressing appreciation for cooperation of the Police Depart-
<br />ment and the City in its recent "Charity Golf Event" was read and orAered filed.
<br />BIDS OPENED - STREET IMPROVEMENTS
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3273, 1969 - being for the improvement
<br />'of Fremont Street, from Washington to Lawton, by constructing a
<br />Class C pavement with curbs.
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3274, 1969 - being for the improvement
<br />of the alley between South Michigan Street and South Main Street,
<br />from Bowman to Calvert, by constructing a Class C pavement.
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3275, 1969 - being for the improvement of
<br />the alley between Sunnymede Avenue and Wayne Street, from
<br />Sunnymede Avenue to the alley west, by constructing a Class C,
<br />Type I concrete pavement.
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3282, 1969 - bei'ng for the improvement
<br />of Wall Street, from Ironwood Drive to 24th Street, by constructing
<br />a Class C pavement with curb repair.
