1.M <br />June 16, 1969 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:08 <br />A.M. on June 16, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />MODEL CITIES AREA CLEAN-UP <br />John Lennon, executive director of Model Cities Program, appeared before the <br />Board in reference to a previous request regarding trash pick-up by City <br />owned vehicles in the Model City area, and stated that they now wished to <br />defer the matter until a later date to permit their groups to become <br />bettercorganized. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Mr. J. W. Adamson,Sub-Standards Dir&ctor, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />1640 Portage Avenue. Fred Egendoerfer, owner of the property, appeared before <br />the Board and stated he intends to sell the property and the buyer wants to <br />renovate and rebuild the house. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the matter was continued until June 23, 1969, and Mr. Adamson was <br />directed to give the owner a list of requirements to bring the building up <br />to standard. <br />23,3-235 E. Paris Street. Grant Lewis,'purported owner of the building, appeared <br />before the Board. Mr. Lewis explained there are two buildings on the lot, a <br />dwelling in the rear and a barber shop in front; that Isiah Cathey operated <br />the barber shop and had proposed to buy the property a few years back. That <br />there is a suit in court to determine the ownership of the property, which <br />is still pending. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the <br />matter was continued until June 23, 1969, in order to explore further the <br />status of the ownership of this property. <br />(Isiah Cathey later also appeared before the Board. He also explained <br />there is a controversy over the ownership of the property; that J. Chester <br />Allen, Sr., is his attorney and that the matter is pending in court. He <br />further stated he has had considerable vandalism at the location and he in- <br />tends to move; that he only wants to get his money back and has no desire to <br />own the property.) <br />1520 Western Avenue. John J. Mejer, Sobieski Federal Savings and Loan <br />Association, did not appear as requested. Mr. Adamson submitted a letter from <br />Mr. Mejer giving permission to demolish the property. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, the Board granted permission to advertise <br />for bids for demolition of the property. <br />717 S. Kaley Street. Price McMahn, owner, did not appear as requested. Mr. <br />Adamson stated this property was formerly occupied by the owner but is now <br />vacant and the house is collapsing, and that he has heard nothing from the <br />owner. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was <br />granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />414 E. Pennsylvania Avenue. Wendell A. Hartman, buyer of this property from Ronald <br />Kapala, appeared before the Board. Ronald Kapala did not appear as requested. <br />Mr. Hartman stated he has been out of town and when he returned he learned the <br />property had been vandalized but has not yet had an opportunity to estimate <br />the damage; that he intends to repair and rent the property as soon as <br />possible. Upon: -motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter <br />was continued until June 23 to permit the owner to close up the property. <br />130-132 LaPorte Avenue. Ray Millikan, owner of this property, appeared be- <br />fore the Board and stated he has started to secure the building; that he in- <br />tends to make the building into a four -rental property and hopes to have <br />tenants in one side within 60 days. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried the matter was continued for 30 days. <br />1 <br />1 <br />+6 <br />
