<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00
<br />A.M. on June 9, 1969, with S. J. Crumpacker and James A. Bickel present. Mr.
<br />Bickel acted as chairman of the meeting. The minutes of the previous meetings
<br />were reviewed and approved.
<br />COMPLAINT AGAINST MRS. KENNETH HURLEY, 931 S._ Edison Street - POSTPONED
<br />Louis Kesei, of the Health Department, was present, and stated that Mrs.
<br />Hurley was injured in an automobile accident last week and is in the hospital;
<br />that the Welfare Department has been investigating the home. Upon motion
<br />made, seconded and and carried, the matter was continued for two weeks.
<br />AWARD OF CONTRACTS FOR GASOLINE AND FUEL OIL
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation
<br />of the Purchasing Department for award of contracts for gasoline and fuel
<br />oil for the period July 1, 1969, through December 31, 1969, as follows:
<br />Gasoline: - Sinclair Oil Corp. tank wagon @ .1303� per gal.
<br />- Standard Oil Co, transport @ .1197� per gal.
<br />Fuel Oil #1 - American Oil Co. tank wagon @ .1250� per gal.
<br />- Standard Oil Co, transport @ .1135� per gal.
<br />Fuel Oil #2 - American Oil Co. tank wagon @ .1175� per gal.
<br />Sinclair Oil Corp, transport @ .1045� per gal.
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up:
<br />721 S. Jackson Street. Mrs. Alex Slaby, owner of this property, appeared be-
<br />fore the Board. Mr. Adamson says the property has been vacant for some time and is
<br />filled with furniture and debris and is a hazard to the area. Mrs. Slaby asked
<br />an extension of six weeks in which to tear the building down herself with the
<br />help of her family. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, an extension of
<br />one week was given in which to secure the building.
<br />620 South Bend Avenue. David Weisman, attorney for the owner Lamirand, by
<br />letter requested a continuance until 6/23/69, stating the property has been
<br />sold to neighbors who intend to have the house torn down. Upon motion made,
<br />seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week to permit the com-
<br />pletion of the transfer of ownership of the property.
<br />202 E. Paris Street. Willis W. Wilson, owner of the property, previously
<br />notified the Clerk of the Board he would be out of town this date, and stated
<br />he was willing for the City to do whatever they wished with the property.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Eoard granted permission to ad-
<br />vertise for bids for demolition of the property.
<br />1602 Longley. The owner of this property is deceased and Fred Dressel is
<br />attorney for the estate. He telephoned the Clerk of the Board that the es-
<br />tate has no money, can't sell the property and is willing for the City to
<br />demolish it. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission
<br />was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the premises.
<br />612 E. Ohio Street. Alberta Kuykendoll, Chicago, Illinois, land contract
<br />buyer of the property, and Mr. Kuykendoll, appeared before the Board. Mrs.
<br />Kuykendoll states she intends to replace the roof and has placed new locks
<br />on the doors, and will secure the windows. Upon motion made, seconded and
<br />carried, the matter was continued for one week for the owner to secure the
<br />premises.
<br />130-132 LaPorte. Mr. Adamson reported as of 9:30 A.M., this date, the rear
<br />door of the dwelling was still open, but otherwise secured. He will check
<br />further.
