May 12, 1969 <br />A=regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M. on May 12, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the previous <br />meetings were reviewed and approved. <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR UNIFORMS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made,.seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved`the <br />request for the Fire Department to advertise for uniforms and uniform equip- <br />ment to $58,200.00 or less. And the Clerk was directed to advertise in the <br />South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on May 19 and May 23, 1969, for <br />bids to be received on May 26, 1969. <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT - GEORGE KROVITCH, JR. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the application and <br />declaration for retirement from the Fire Department of George Krovitch, Jr., <br />was approved, effective May 12, 1969, having served more than 21 years. <br />REQUEST TO ATTEND INSTITUTE E. LANS.ING, MICHIGAN - POL'ICE'DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved <br />the request for Uniform Division Chief Glenn Terry, Sergeants Daniel <br />Niedbalski and Robert Riddle and Officer James Robison to attend the <br />National Conference of Christians and Jews Institute on Police and Community <br />Relations at East Lansing Michigan May 18 to 23,1969, and to use Mechanical <br />Vehicle #95 for the trip. <br />REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS'- POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />the Police Department for the transfer of funds from Account P-11 (services <br />personal) to Account P-722 (motor equipment) in the amount of $2820.00. <br />Mr. Taylor abstained from voting. The reason for the requested transfer is <br />to replace Mechanical #52 which was demolished in an accident and for the <br />purchase of a Cushman three wheel vehicle. <br />REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR UNIFORMS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and u animously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of the Police Department to advertise for uniforms and uniform equip- <br />ment for the Police Department to $47,500.00 or less. And the Clerk was <br />directed to advertise in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on <br />May 16 and May 23, 1969', for bids to be received on May 26, 1969. <br />TRAFFIC REPORT FOR APRIL, 1969 - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Police traffic report for April, 1969, was reviewed and ordered filed. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENTThe application of Janet Carole James <br />for appointment to the Police Department was filed and referred to the Personnel <br />Director for further processing. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER <br />The application of Mary Jane Van Wynsberghe for appointment as a special <br />police officer at Robertson's Department Store, upon motion made, seconded <br />and unanimously carried, was approved. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Mr. J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board, and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />824 S. Liberty Street. Stanley Nowak, owner of this property, appeared before <br />the Board and stated that he is willing to have the building demolished. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was granted <br />to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />
