March 31, 1969 <br />1 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M. on March 31, 1969,-with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS FOR ROAD OIL POSTPONED <br />Monday, March 31, 1969, having been declared a day of mourning on account of <br />the death of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and there being no mail <br />deliveries, Mr. Crupacker moved that bids received for road oil, which were <br />to have been opened this date, remain sealed and held for one week from today <br />for opening in the event additional bids may have been mailed but not re- <br />ceived because of no mail deliveries. The motion was seconded and <br />unanimously carried. <br />The two bids received and being held for opening until April 7, 1969, were <br />from Walker Corporation, East Chicago, Indiana, and Westville Oil and Manu- <br />facturing Company, Westville, Indiana. <br />HEARING ON ASSESSMENT ROLL - ALLEY VACATION NO. 3272 - STATE WIDE ALUMINUM <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the Assessment Roll in Vacation <br />Resolution No. 3272, being for the vacation of: <br />All of that part of the right of way of Fairview Avenue <br />from the west line of Main Street -to -the east right of <br />way line of Penn -Central. <br />Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on <br />March 14, March 21 and March 28, 1969, were read and found to be proper. <br />There being no net benefits and no net damages, and no one having appeared <br />either for or against the vacation, the Assessment Roll, upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, was confirmed and approved and the pro- <br />ceedings closed and the property declared vacated. <br />PETITION FILED TO VACATE ALLEY - CURTIS E. AND MAXINE E. GERBER <br />Attorney William N. Farabaugh, on behalf of Curtis E. and Maxine E. Gerber, <br />filed a petition for the vacation of: <br />the first east -west alley lying south of Hildreth, <br />more particularly described as: Beginning at the <br />southeast corner of Lot 32, Euclid Park; thence <br />west 111.5 feet to the southwest corner of Lot 32; <br />thence north 14 feet to the southwest corner of <br />Lot 31; thence east 111.5 feet to the southeast <br />corner of Lot 31; thence south 14 feet to the <br />place of beginning. <br />Also, for the vacation of an alley described as: <br />Beginning at the southwest corner of Lot 37, Euclid <br />Park; thence east 55.75 feet along the south line of <br />said Lot 37; thence south 14 feet to the northeast <br />corner of Lot:39; thence west 55.75 feet to the north- <br />west corner of said Lot 39; thence north 14 feet to <br />the southwest corner of Lot 37, the place of beginning. <br />together with a deposit of $65.00 for costs in such proceedings. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the petition was referred to <br />the Engineering Department for the location of utilities and then to be for- <br />warded to the Area Plan Commission for its study and recommendation to the <br />Board. <br />REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Pursuant to the request of the Police Department for the transfer of funds, <br />and upon the recommendation of the City Attorney for such transfer as follows: <br />
