March 17, 1969 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M., on March 17, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the meet- ing March 10, 1969, were reviewed and approved. STREET MATERIAL BID - WESTVILLE OIL & MANUFACTURING COMPANY A bid for street material from Westville Oil and Manufacturing Company, in- tended for opening March 10, 1969, not having come to the attention of the Board on that date, was opened. Non collusion affidavit and bid bond were found to be proper. Bid being for 200,000 gallons of dust control road oil-' at ..048t per gallon. On motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was re- ferred to the city attorney for recommendation. APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT The _following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: 'Dennis Joseph Emery William Chasey Shaffer APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT The following applications for -appointment to the Police Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Don Edward Bergen Jon Kevin Hanley Mary Elizabeth Holdread APPOINTMENTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the following appointments to the South Bend Police Department were approved, upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton: Terry Paul Alien - Effective as of 3/16/69 Michael Dwyer Fulnecky - Effective as of 3/16/69 Richard Lee Rozmarynowski - Effective as of 3/16/69 Arletta Vance Taylor - Effective as of 3/16/69 STATIST.I.CAL REPORT FOR FEBRUARY, 1969 - POLICE DEPARTMENT Statistical report of the Police Department for February, 1969, was reviewed cind.�ordered filed. APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - GERALD R. SHIDAKER Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the appointment of Gerald R. Shidaker as a special police officer upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the follow- ing matters were taken up: 2117-2119 W. Washington Street. Hubert Mitchell and attorney Richard Doyle appeared before the Board. Having just gotten into the matter, Mr. Doyle requested additional time in which to make an investigation. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was postponed until March 24, 1969. 1913 Orange Street. Mr. and Mrs. Oltie Mayfield, owners of this property, appeared before the Board. The procedure for the City to demolish was explained to them by Mr. Taylor, and Mr. and Mrs. Mayfield stated they were willing for the property to be taken down. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, permission was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property.
