March 17, 1969 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M., on March 17, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the meet- <br />ing March 10, 1969, were reviewed and approved. <br />STREET MATERIAL BID - WESTVILLE OIL & MANUFACTURING COMPANY <br />A bid for street material from Westville Oil and Manufacturing Company, in- <br />tended for opening March 10, 1969, not having come to the attention of the <br />Board on that date, was opened. Non collusion affidavit and bid bond were <br />found to be proper. Bid being for 200,000 gallons of dust control road oil-' <br />at ..048t per gallon. On motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was re- <br />ferred to the city attorney for recommendation. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The _following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed <br />with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: <br />'Dennis Joseph Emery <br />William Chasey Shaffer <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for -appointment to the Police Department were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Don Edward Bergen <br />Jon Kevin Hanley <br />Mary Elizabeth Holdread <br />APPOINTMENTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the following appointments <br />to the South Bend Police Department were approved, upon the recommendation of <br />Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton: <br />Terry Paul Alien - Effective as of 3/16/69 <br />Michael Dwyer Fulnecky - Effective as of 3/16/69 <br />Richard Lee Rozmarynowski - Effective as of 3/16/69 <br />Arletta Vance Taylor - Effective as of 3/16/69 <br />STATIST.I.CAL REPORT FOR FEBRUARY, 1969 - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Statistical report of the Police Department for February, 1969, was reviewed <br />cind.�ordered filed. <br />APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - GERALD R. SHIDAKER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />appointment of Gerald R. Shidaker as a special police officer upon the <br />recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas H. McNaughton. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the follow- <br />ing matters were taken up: <br />2117-2119 W. Washington Street. Hubert Mitchell and attorney Richard Doyle <br />appeared before the Board. Having just gotten into the matter, Mr. Doyle <br />requested additional time in which to make an investigation. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the matter was postponed until March 24, 1969. <br />1913 Orange Street. Mr. and Mrs. Oltie Mayfield, owners of this property, appeared <br />before the Board. The procedure for the City to demolish was explained to <br />them by Mr. Taylor, and Mr. and Mrs. Mayfield stated they were willing for the <br />property to be taken down. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, permission <br />was granted to advertise for bids for demolition of the property. <br />
