January 27, 1969 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 <br />A.M., on January 27, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />PROMOTIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the following promotions <br />in the Fire Department effective February 1, 1969: <br />Private Richard Lentz - to the rank of lieutenant <br />Private Eugene Rozwarski -,to the rank of lieutenant <br />Private Edwin Kaczmarek - to the rank of lieutenant <br />Private Stephen Sheets - to the rank of lieutenant <br />Private Charles Steele - to the rank of lieutenant <br />APPOINTMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the appointment of Richard <br />E:rl Fogle to the South Bend Fire Department, effective February 1, 1969. <br />Notice of acceptance.for membership in the Firemen's Pension Fund is ordered <br />filed. <br />RETIREMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Fire Chief Zurat submitted the declarations for retirement and applications <br />for pension fund benefits.of the following firemen: <br />Clement M. Marosz - effective February 1, 1969, having been <br />appointed to the Fire Department on November 1, 1945 and having <br />served more than 23 years. <br />Joseph Wegenka = effective January 29, 1969, having been appointed <br />to the Fire Department on December 1, 1948, and having served <br />more than 20 years. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the Board approved the <br />retirements. <br />REVISED RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT APPROVED <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the Rules and Regulations, <br />including organizational chart,for the Fite Department, as revised, were <br />approved by the Board. <br />OPEN BIDS FOR TWO-WAY RADIOS <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for two-way radios as follows: <br />Item I <br />- 7 <br />two-way <br />mobile <br />radios <br />for <br />Police Department <br />Item II <br />- 8 <br />two-way <br />mobile <br />radios <br />for <br />Street Department <br />Item III <br />- 1 <br />two-way <br />mobile <br />radio <br />for <br />Engineering Department <br />Item 1V <br />- 2 <br />two-way <br />mobile <br />radios <br />for <br />Traffic Department <br />Item V <br />- 6 <br />two-way <br />mobile <br />radios <br />for <br />Fire Department <br />the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the <br />Tri-County News on January 10 and January 17, 1969, which were read and <br />found to be sufficient. Bids were received from the following companies: <br />General Electric Co., 3750 N. Meridian St., Rm. 7, Indianapolis, Ind. <br />Motorola, Inc., 1500 S. Harlem Ave., Forest Park, 111, 60130 <br />Radio Corp. of America, RCA Building, 15-3, Camden, N. J., 08102 <br />Bids were opened.
