January 27, 1969 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M., on January 27, 1969, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. PROMOTIONS - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the following promotions in the Fire Department effective February 1, 1969: Private Richard Lentz - to the rank of lieutenant Private Eugene Rozwarski -,to the rank of lieutenant Private Edwin Kaczmarek - to the rank of lieutenant Private Stephen Sheets - to the rank of lieutenant Private Charles Steele - to the rank of lieutenant APPOINTMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the appointment of Richard E:rl Fogle to the South Bend Fire Department, effective February 1, 1969. Notice of acceptance.for membership in the Firemen's Pension Fund is ordered filed. RETIREMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Chief Zurat submitted the declarations for retirement and applications for pension fund benefits.of the following firemen: Clement M. Marosz - effective February 1, 1969, having been appointed to the Fire Department on November 1, 1945 and having served more than 23 years. Joseph Wegenka = effective January 29, 1969, having been appointed to the Fire Department on December 1, 1948, and having served more than 20 years. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the Board approved the retirements. REVISED RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT APPROVED Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the Rules and Regulations, including organizational chart,for the Fite Department, as revised, were approved by the Board. OPEN BIDS FOR TWO-WAY RADIOS This being the date set for receiving bids for two-way radios as follows: Item I - 7 two-way mobile radios for Police Department Item II - 8 two-way mobile radios for Street Department Item III - 1 two-way mobile radio for Engineering Department Item 1V - 2 two-way mobile radios for Traffic Department Item V - 6 two-way mobile radios for Fire Department the Clerk tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News on January 10 and January 17, 1969, which were read and found to be sufficient. Bids were received from the following companies: General Electric Co., 3750 N. Meridian St., Rm. 7, Indianapolis, Ind. Motorola, Inc., 1500 S. Harlem Ave., Forest Park, 111, 60130 Radio Corp. of America, RCA Building, 15-3, Camden, N. J., 08102 Bids were opened. Non collusion affidavits and bid bonds were examined and found to be sufficient. 1
