May 17, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on May 17, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RECOMMENDATION OF CITY 'CONTROLLER - COMPUTER SYSTEM <br />Upon the recommendation of the City Controller, the motion was made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried to approve the extension of consultant <br />fees to Joseph Larimore in the amount of $5,000.00, in the matter of the <br />computer system for the Police Department, with a limitation of $170.00 <br />per day plus expenses as contained in the present agreement. <br />it was further moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the request <br />for Captain Gerald Knepper of the South Bend Police Department to visit <br />installations of the first two recommended vendors (National Cash Register <br />Company and Burroughs Corporation) be denied, but that Captain Knepper be <br />authorized to visit an installation of the successful bidder. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />�C? <br />The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Rickey D. Bonds Arthur William Pletcher <br />Karen Lorraine Colley Walter James Taylor <br />Michael John Jankowski <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and <br />the following matters were taken up: <br />424 S. Illinois Street. Roosevelt Quin appeared before the Board as requested, <br />and stated this property has been repossessed by the Colonial Mortgage <br />Company. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued <br />one week to permit the Sub -Standards Department to contact the Colonial <br />Mortgage Company. <br />129 S. Logan Street. Sophia Kluska did not appear as requested. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was <br />authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 129 S. Logan <br />Street. <br />1063 LaSalle Court. No one appeared on behalf of the estate of Gretchen C. <br />Hancock, as requested. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of <br />the structure at 1063 LaSalle Street. <br />305 Wenger Street. Mr. Liszewski reported Alonzo Johnson, owner of this <br />property, has advised the National Bank has a mortgage on the property, and <br />the matter was continued one week to permit the Sub -Standards Director to con- <br />tact the National Bank. <br />Demolition bids opened: <br />This being the date set, bids for demolition of the following structures <br />were opened. Non collusion affidavits were found to be proper. The bids were <br />as follows: <br />22t-224 N. O'Brien Street <br />Midwest Demolition Company $431.00 <br />Vanek Wrecking and Excavating Co. $451.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. $549.00 <br />B & J Demolition Co. $535.00 <br />Bryant Excavating Co. $518.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded -and unanimously carried, contract for demolition <br />of the structure at 222-224 N. O'Brien Street was awarded to Midwest Demolition <br />Company on its low bid of $431.00. <br />
