q, @,Y=. 31 <br />May 10, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were <br />reviewed and approved. <br />BIDS OPENED - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 3330 1970 - ALLEYS BETWEEN <br />HUEY AND O'BRIEN STREETS <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of the <br />alleys between Huey and O'Brien Streets, from Humboldt Street to the tee <br />and east and west from Huey to O'Brien, by constructing a Class C, Type I <br />pavement, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South <br />Bend Tribune and the Tr-i County News on April 30 and May 7, 1971, which <br />were read and found to be sufficient. <br />The only bid received was from McIntyre and Jones, Inc., 2526 W. 6th Street, <br />Mishawaka, Indiana. Non collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The <br />bid was accompanied by a bid bond in the amount of 5% of the bid and <br />financial statement of bidder (Indiana State Board of Accounts Form No. 96-a). <br />Total bid was in the amount of $9,787.60. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was referred to the con- <br />sultin g engineer for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT <br />'he application of Ronald Edward Akin for appointment to the South Bend <br />Fire Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel <br />Director for further processing. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Vaughn Russell Cambrin Raymond Edward Fulbright <br />Hugh Daniel DePaele Michael John Jankowski <br />Stephen Michael Dobrzykowski <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - COMPUTER SYSTEM <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Chief of Police Loren <br />M. Bussert for permission to extend consultant fees to Joseph W. Larimore, <br />Jr., computer consultant, in the amount of $5,000.00 to complete the com- <br />puter bid evaluation and implementation of the computer system and for <br />Captain Gerald Knepper to inspect computer installations of the top three <br />bidders in other cities was referred to the City Controller for study and <br />recommendation. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Bids were opened for demolition of the structure at 234 Pagin Street. Non <br />collusion affidavits were found to be proper. The bids were as follows: <br />Vanek Excavating Company $304.00 <br />Midwest Demolition Corporation $384.00 <br />E & D Company $297.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Company $300.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract for demolition <br />of the structure at 234 Pagin Street was awarded to E & D Company on its <br />low bid of $297.00. <br />INSTALLATION OF FIRE HYDRANTS APPROVED <br />Upon the recommendation of the Fire Department and the request of the Water <br />Department, the motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to install <br />a fire hydrant on the 6 inch line on Twyckenham Drive and on the 6 inch <br />line on Lincolnway East in the area of the "Scattered Site Program" of the <br />Housing Authority. The Housing Authority will bear the cost of installat-ion, <br />and the City of South Bend will as-sume the -rental of the two hydrants. <br />
