q, @,Y=. 31 May 10, 1971. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. BIDS OPENED - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 3330 1970 - ALLEYS BETWEEN HUEY AND O'BRIEN STREETS This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of the alleys between Huey and O'Brien Streets, from Humboldt Street to the tee and east and west from Huey to O'Brien, by constructing a Class C, Type I pavement, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tr-i County News on April 30 and May 7, 1971, which were read and found to be sufficient. The only bid received was from McIntyre and Jones, Inc., 2526 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, Indiana. Non collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The bid was accompanied by a bid bond in the amount of 5% of the bid and financial statement of bidder (Indiana State Board of Accounts Form No. 96-a). Total bid was in the amount of $9,787.60. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was referred to the con- sultin g engineer for study and recommendation to the Board. FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT 'he application of Ronald Edward Akin for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Vaughn Russell Cambrin Raymond Edward Fulbright Hugh Daniel DePaele Michael John Jankowski Stephen Michael Dobrzykowski POLICE DEPARTMENT - COMPUTER SYSTEM Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for permission to extend consultant fees to Joseph W. Larimore, Jr., computer consultant, in the amount of $5,000.00 to complete the com- puter bid evaluation and implementation of the computer system and for Captain Gerald Knepper to inspect computer installations of the top three bidders in other cities was referred to the City Controller for study and recommendation. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION Bids were opened for demolition of the structure at 234 Pagin Street. Non collusion affidavits were found to be proper. The bids were as follows: Vanek Excavating Company $304.00 Midwest Demolition Corporation $384.00 E & D Company $297.00 O'Neal Trucking Company $300.00 Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract for demolition of the structure at 234 Pagin Street was awarded to E & D Company on its low bid of $297.00. INSTALLATION OF FIRE HYDRANTS APPROVED Upon the recommendation of the Fire Department and the request of the Water Department, the motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to install a fire hydrant on the 6 inch line on Twyckenham Drive and on the 6 inch line on Lincolnway East in the area of the "Scattered Site Program" of the Housing Authority. The Housing Authority will bear the cost of installat-ion, and the City of South Bend will as-sume the -rental of the two hydrants.
