April 19, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35 <br />A.M. on April 19, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed <br />with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: <br />Harold: Dceq-H&oton <br />David A. Podelwitz <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Janette Lucille Beach <br />Richard John Pishnoff <br />Bernard Joseph Stepczynski, Jr. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved <br />the promotion of Forrest L. Milbourn, upon the recommendation of Chief of <br />Police Loren M. Bussert, from the rank of corporal to the rank of sergeant <br />effective April 16, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORTS <br />Police Department statistical reports for the month of March, 1971, were <br />reviewed and ordered filed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO PARTICIPATE IN BLOSSOM TIME FESTIVAL PARADE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for five cyclemen from the Police Depart- <br />ment and Division Chief Kenneth McDonnald to participate in the Blossom <br />Time Festival parade in -St. Joseph,*Michigan on Saturday, May 8, 1971, and <br />to provide a police escort for a parade on Friday, May 7, 1971, in South <br />Bend. <br />APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - RIC'HARD LEE STANLEY <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />appointment of Richard Lee Stanley as a special police officer employed <br />by the St. Joseph Hospital, upon the recommendation of Chief of Police <br />Loren M. Bussert. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and <br />the following matters were taken up: <br />736 N. Frances Street. The Sub -Standards Director reported having met <br />with the owner of the property at 736 N. Frances Street, Wallace J. Mitchell, <br />and stated that a new list of repairs was given to Mr. Mitchell who requests <br />a continuance of one week to start the repairs. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />2515 W. Grace Street. The Sub -Standards Director reported the property at <br />2515 W. Grace Street will be taken down privately. Thereupon, it was <br />moved, seconded and unanimously carried to continue the matter indefinitely <br />but to keep the matter under surveillance of the Sub -Standards Department. <br />
