March 22, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on March 22, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous two meetings were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - RECOMMENDATION FOR EMERGENCY TELEPHONE REPORTING SYSTEM <br />The report of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat that the emergency telephone re- <br />porting system as proposed by the Indiana Belt Telephone Company will be <br />acceptable to the Fire Department was ordered filed. <br />FIRE HYDRANT APPROVED - E. IRELAND ROAD <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the installation of a fire <br />hydrant at approximately 700 E. Ireland Road, on the south side of the road. <br />POLICE_ DEPARTMENT - MILITARY DUTY, JEROME D. KRECZMER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for officer Jerome D. Kreczmer <br />to be excused for military duty in the U. S. Naval Reserve from March 27 <br />to April 10, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RESIGNATION - POLICE CADET KURT CRUICKSHANK <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the resignation of Police <br />Cadet Kurt Cruickshank was approved and accepted, upon the recommendation of <br />Police /Chief Loren M. Bussert, effective March 31, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - COPY EQUIPMENT REQUEST DENIED <br />The Board having reviewed the matter of copy equipment for the Police Depart- <br />ment and the request for a transfer of $6,000.00 from the general fund to. <br />operate the program, and the City Controller having advised that no surplus <br />presently exists in the general fund for such expenditure, the motion was <br />made, seconded and carried, to deny the request for such equipment. <br />PROCEDURES SUGGESTED FOR COUNTY CITY BUILDING INEVENT OF BOMB THREAT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the procedures submitted by Chief <br />of Police Loren M. Bussert to be followed in the event of a "bomb threat" <br />in the County City Building were approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Martin Lee Gersey <br />Warren Angus MacDiarmid <br />Donald E. Myers <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE 1NiNEW ORLEANS, LA. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Forrest R. West, <br />Building Commissioner, for permission to attend the American Society of <br />Planning Officials in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 27 through April 1, 1971, <br />was approved. <br />BUILLDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard B. Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board <br />and the following matters were taken ups. <br />906 N. Stanfield Street. The Sub -Standards Director reported this building <br />secured and the motion was made, seconded and carried to continue the matter <br />indefinitely but to be kept under surveillance of the Sub -Standards Depart- <br />ment. <br />
