March 22, 1971. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M. on March 22, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the previous two meetings were reviewed and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT - RECOMMENDATION FOR EMERGENCY TELEPHONE REPORTING SYSTEM The report of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat that the emergency telephone re- porting system as proposed by the Indiana Belt Telephone Company will be acceptable to the Fire Department was ordered filed. FIRE HYDRANT APPROVED - E. IRELAND ROAD Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the installation of a fire hydrant at approximately 700 E. Ireland Road, on the south side of the road. POLICE_ DEPARTMENT - MILITARY DUTY, JEROME D. KRECZMER Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for officer Jerome D. Kreczmer to be excused for military duty in the U. S. Naval Reserve from March 27 to April 10, 1971. POLICE DEPARTMENT - RESIGNATION - POLICE CADET KURT CRUICKSHANK Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the resignation of Police Cadet Kurt Cruickshank was approved and accepted, upon the recommendation of Police /Chief Loren M. Bussert, effective March 31, 1971. POLICE DEPARTMENT - COPY EQUIPMENT REQUEST DENIED The Board having reviewed the matter of copy equipment for the Police Depart- ment and the request for a transfer of $6,000.00 from the general fund to. operate the program, and the City Controller having advised that no surplus presently exists in the general fund for such expenditure, the motion was made, seconded and carried, to deny the request for such equipment. PROCEDURES SUGGESTED FOR COUNTY CITY BUILDING INEVENT OF BOMB THREAT Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the procedures submitted by Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert to be followed in the event of a "bomb threat" in the County City Building were approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Martin Lee Gersey Warren Angus MacDiarmid Donald E. Myers BUILDING DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE 1NiNEW ORLEANS, LA. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Forrest R. West, Building Commissioner, for permission to attend the American Society of Planning Officials in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 27 through April 1, 1971, was approved. BUILLDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION Richard B. Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken ups. 906 N. Stanfield Street. The Sub -Standards Director reported this building secured and the motion was made, seconded and carried to continue the matter indefinitely but to be kept under surveillance of the Sub -Standards Depart- ment.
