<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the

<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE, KANSAS CITY, MO.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of
<br />Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for Assistant Chief Richard Busfield and Captain
<br />William Schmidt to attend the 43rd annual Instructors Conference in Kansas
<br />City, Missouri, March 30 to April 2, 1971.
<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - EXCUSED FOR MILITARY DUTY - WILLIAM C. SHAFFER
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and -carried, the Board approved the request
<br />of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for fireman William C. Shaffer to be excused
<br />for military duty in the Naval Reserve at Key West, Florida, March 21
<br />through Apr i l 3, 1971. ,
<br />REQUEST OF INDIANA ALARM COMPANY TO INSTALL FIRE ALARM PANEL
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of the Indiana Alarm
<br />Company, Inc., P. 0. Box 715, South Bend, Indiana, for permission to
<br />install a fire alarm panel at the Fire Department Alarm Station was re-
<br />ferred to the:"Fire Department for study and recommendation to the Board.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - SICK LEAVE - WALTER BENNINGHOFF
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, upon the recommendation of Chief
<br />of Police Loren M. Bussert, the Board approved the extension of sick leave
<br />over 30 days for officer Walter Benninghoff for such period as is required
<br />for his recuperation followthg an operation for the "removal of a disk"
<br />on March 2, 1971.
<br />SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - MACK WHISMAN
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board, upon the recommendation
<br />of Police Chief Loren M. Bussert, approved the appointment of Mack Whisman
<br />as a special police offi-cer while in the employ of Walt's Restaurant upon
<br />the filing of a proper bond.
<br />SPECIAL POLICE UNIFORMS - AMERICAN DISTRICT TELEGRAPH COMPANY
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board disapproved the request of
<br />the:American District Telegraph Company for permission to use their own type
<br />of uniform for special police officers in their employ, inasmuch as a
<br />standard uniform for special police officers has been adopted by the South
<br />Bend Police Department.
<br />JOSEPH W. LARIMORE, JR. CONSULTANT SERVICES
<br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, the Board
<br />approved the following change in the agreement of November 16, 1970, with
<br />Joseph W. Larimore, Jr:, for consultant services in connection with implement-
<br />ing a computer- center:
<br />"(d) Consulting services shall not exceed the sum of $9,800.00.1,'
