February 22, 1971 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at <br />9:30 A.M. on'February 22, 1971, with all members present. The minutes <br />of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Joel Wayne Hawn William Eugene Smith <br />Patrick D. Shelton David Isaac Taylor <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police De- <br />partment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director <br />for further processing: <br />Terry Ray Dohman. Thomas John Nowicki <br />James Cooper Fenimore Randy Lee Strahla <br />Terence Allen Goralski Larry Joseph Verash <br />Q POLICE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT <br />The retirement of Corporal John Thompson from the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment effective March 1, 1971, was accepted and approved by the Board upon <br />the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT <br />Statistical report of the Police Department for the month of January, 1971, <br />was reviewed and ordered filed. <br />APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the appointment <br />of Milton Pittman, Sr., as a special police officer in the employ of Con- <br />solidated Negro Contractors, Inc., upon the recommendation of Chief of <br />Police Loren M. Bussert. <br />WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT - MONTHLY REPORT <br />The report of the City Sealer for the month of January, 1971, was reviewed <br />and ordered filed. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION. <br />Richard B. Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board <br />and the following matters were taken up: <br />321--N-Brook€+e;d-Street. Harold Personette, 525 E. Dubai] Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, appeared before the Board as requested. He stated there <br />had been a fire in the structure December 5, 1970, and that the house will <br />have to be demolished if he is unable to sell the property. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week for the owner <br />to decide what he intends to do. <br />223 N. Johnson Street. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Cudowski appeared before the <br />Board as requested. They stated they intend to repair the -,property and <br />will secure the building. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />matter was continued one week to permit the owners to secure the building. <br />1207 King Street. Mr. Liszewski stated he had received a letter from Chester <br />Rose giving permission "to do whatever he wants with the property;" and <br />that a title search had been made to ascertain the owner of the property. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Sub -Standards Director was <br />authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the property at 1207 King <br />Street. <br />
