i <br />February 8, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35 <br />A.M., on February 8, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPEN BIDS - VAN TRUCK FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for a van truck for the Fire De- <br />partment, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South <br />Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on January 22 and January 29, 1971, <br />which were found to be sufficient. <br />The only bid received ihas from Gates Chevrolet Corporation, 333 Western Avenue, <br />South Bend, Indiana. The bid was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit <br />and bid bond in the amount of 10% of the bid. The bid was for one 1971 <br />Chevrolet Step Van King GVW at $4,370.00. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was referred to the Fire <br />Department for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - RESIGNATION <br />The resignation of Vincent Chrapliwy from the Fire Department, effective <br />February 8, 1971, was accepted by the Board. - <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND POLICE INSTITUTE, LOUISVILLE. KY. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for Ervin Gerschoffer, Detective <br />Sergeant, to attend the Southern Police Institute Twelve Week Executive <br />Development course -at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, commencing <br />March 15, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RADIO NETWORK PROGRAM <br />The report of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert in reference to the proposed <br />program for research concerning the needs of the Police Department in the area <br />of radio communications was reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - COPY EQUIPMENT <br />The report of the Police Department concerning the operation of copy equip- <br />ment at the Police Department and the request for the transfer of $6,000.00 <br />from the General Fund for the operation of the program as outlined was <br />reviewed and taken under advisement by the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was granted <br />for Forrest R. West, Building Commissioner, and Richard-B: Liszewski, Sub - <br />Standards Director, to attend a National conference on the proposed <br />Residential Rehabilitation Code at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, <br />February 9 and 10, 1971. <br />RADIO DEPARTMENT - REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />transfer of $86.20 from Account W-726 (other equipment) to Account W-722 <br />(motor equipment) as requested by John V. Hunt, Radio Supervisor, and the <br />request was referred to the Legal Department for the preparation of a <br />resolution for the consideration of the Common Council. <br />SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - JOHN KERESZTURY <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board approved the application <br />of John Keresztury for appointment as a special police officer while em- <br />ployed by the City of South Bend, Indiana, Mr. Keresztury having turned in <br />his special police commission as an employee of Bendix Corporation. <br />
