i February 8, 1971. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35 A.M., on February 8, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. OPEN BIDS - VAN TRUCK FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT This being the date set for receiving bids for a van truck for the Fire De- partment, the Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on January 22 and January 29, 1971, which were found to be sufficient. The only bid received ihas from Gates Chevrolet Corporation, 333 Western Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. The bid was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit and bid bond in the amount of 10% of the bid. The bid was for one 1971 Chevrolet Step Van King GVW at $4,370.00. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bid was referred to the Fire Department for study and recommendation to the Board. FIRE DEPARTMENT - RESIGNATION The resignation of Vincent Chrapliwy from the Fire Department, effective February 8, 1971, was accepted by the Board. - POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND POLICE INSTITUTE, LOUISVILLE. KY. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for Ervin Gerschoffer, Detective Sergeant, to attend the Southern Police Institute Twelve Week Executive Development course -at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, commencing March 15, 1971. POLICE DEPARTMENT - RADIO NETWORK PROGRAM The report of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert in reference to the proposed program for research concerning the needs of the Police Department in the area of radio communications was reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. POLICE DEPARTMENT - COPY EQUIPMENT The report of the Police Department concerning the operation of copy equip- ment at the Police Department and the request for the transfer of $6,000.00 from the General Fund for the operation of the program as outlined was reviewed and taken under advisement by the Board. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, permission was granted for Forrest R. West, Building Commissioner, and Richard-B: Liszewski, Sub - Standards Director, to attend a National conference on the proposed Residential Rehabilitation Code at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, February 9 and 10, 1971. RADIO DEPARTMENT - REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF FUNDS Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the transfer of $86.20 from Account W-726 (other equipment) to Account W-722 (motor equipment) as requested by John V. Hunt, Radio Supervisor, and the request was referred to the Legal Department for the preparation of a resolution for the consideration of the Common Council. SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - JOHN KERESZTURY Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board approved the application of John Keresztury for appointment as a special police officer while em- ployed by the City of South Bend, Indiana, Mr. Keresztury having turned in his special police commission as an employee of Bendix Corporation.
