:0#7 <br />December 28, 1970 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on December 28, 1970. Lloyd S. Taylor and S. J. Crumpacker were <br />present. <br />BIDS OPENED - SANITARY SEWER, AIRPORT INDUSTRIAL PARK, PHASE III <br />This being the date set, bids were opened for construction of a sanitary <br />sewer in the Airport Industrial Park, Phase III. The Clerk tendered proofs <br />of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News <br />on December 4 and December 11, 1970, which were read and found to be proper. <br />The following bids were received for the furnishing of all material for <br />construction of 877 lineal feet of 24" clay sewer, 198 lineal feet of 8" <br />clay sewer, 3 manholes and miscellaneous appurtenant work items: <br />H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor, Inc., 58600 Executive Drive, Mishawaka, <br />Indiana. Nbn collusion affidavit was found to be proper. Bid bond in <br />the amount of 5% of the bid and financial statement of bidder accompanied <br />the bid. <br />Total bid---------------------------------$22,183.60 <br />Haskins, Inc., Lakeville, Indiana. Non collusion affidavit was found to <br />be proper. The bid was accompanied by a bid bond in the amount of 5% <br />of the bid and financial statement of bidder. <br />Total bid---------------------------------$20,798.00 <br />Woodruff & Sons, Inc., P. 0. Box 315, Michigan City, Indiana. Non <br />collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The bid was accompanied <br />by a bidder's financial statement. No bid bond was included. <br />Total bid ---------------------------------- $24,896.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the <br />Engineering Department for review and recommendation. <br />CONTRACT AWARDED FOR PUMPING FIRE ENGINE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation <br />of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the award of contract for a 1500 gallon <br />Ward LaFrance pumping fire engine to Midwest Fire and Safety Equipment Company <br />at a net price of $42,880.00, and certain optional equipment as recommended <br />by the Fire Chief. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTIONS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the following police officers were <br />promoted to the rank of sergeant effective January 1, 1971: <br />Corporal Walter Borkowski <br />Corporal Clement DeGucz <br />Corporal Edward P. Gassensmith <br />Officer George Hertz <br />Corporal Ronald Lee Ingle <br />Officer Carolyn Miller <br />Corporal Donald Niezgodski <br />Corporal Leonard Sieradski <br />Corporal Bruce Stickley <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Forrest West, Building Commissioner, appeared before the Board and the follow- <br />ing matters were taken up. <br />1618 and 1620 W. Dunham Street. Clem Wrzesien appeared before the Board and <br />stated that he intends to repair these two buildings. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the matter of 1618 and 1620 W. Dunham Street was con- <br />tinued indefinitely on condition that the owner keep the premises closed and <br />the yards free of debris and junk. <br />1207 King Street. Mr. West reported this property open as of December 23, <br />1970. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of 1207 King Street <br />was continued one week, and the Sub -Standards Department was requested to con- <br />tact the owner to find out his intentions. <br />
