12 November 9, 1970 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., on November 9, 1970, with all members present..: REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR FIRE HOSE - FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of the Fire Department to advertise for bids for fire hose and set November 30, 1970, as the date for receiving bids. And the Clerk was directed to give notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on November 13 and November 20, 1970. POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the promotion as recommended by Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert of Corporal Fred Medich to the rank of sergeant effective November 9, 1970. POLICE'DEPARTME NT - RETIREMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and approved the application for retirement of Sergeant Robert W. Miller from the South Bend Police Department, effective November 15, 1970. The Board commends Sergeant Miller on his fine work and particularly his programs with the schools. SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER APPOINTED Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the appointment of L. Kent Wilcox, employed by the South Bend Police Department, as a special police officer. REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS -_POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of the Police Department for permission to transfer $2000.00 from Account P-265 (services contractual) to Account P-252 (repair of equipment) and $500.00 from Account P-265 to Account P-262 (medical, surgical and dental) was referred to the Deputy Controller for review and recommendation. STATISTICAL REPORTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT Statistical reports for the month of October, 1970, of the Police Department were reviewed and ordered filed. ' BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the follow- ing matters were taken up. 2410-2412 W. Ford Street. Gene -'Arnett, owner, and attorney Morris Rosen appeared be- fore the Board. Mr. Arnett stated that he intends to rehabilitate this property and will start immediately to repair the roof and clean up the outside. Mr. Arnett was informed that because of his failure to bring the property up to standard and to respond to notices, contract was awarded on October 26, 1970, to the Midwest Demolition Company for the demolition of the structure. Mr. Rosen stated that demolition had not commenced and that he had discussed the matter with Mr. Lowe of that Company and believed Mr. Lowe would be agreeable to rescinding this contract. Mr. Crumpacker moved that the matter of the contract for demolition of the structure at 2410-2412 W. Ford Street be held in abeyance four weeks on con- dition, first, that the written consent of Midwest Demolition Company be secured rescinding the existing contract and, second,*that substantial progress be shown within that time toward the rehabilitation of this property.
