12 <br />November 9, 1970 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on November 9, 1970, with all members present..: <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR FIRE HOSE - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of the Fire Department to advertise for bids for fire hose and set <br />November 30, 1970, as the date for receiving bids. And the Clerk was <br />directed to give notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the <br />Tri County News on November 13 and November 20, 1970. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />promotion as recommended by Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert of Corporal <br />Fred Medich to the rank of sergeant effective November 9, 1970. <br />POLICE'DEPARTME NT - RETIREMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and <br />approved the application for retirement of Sergeant Robert W. Miller from <br />the South Bend Police Department, effective November 15, 1970. The Board <br />commends Sergeant Miller on his fine work and particularly his programs with <br />the schools. <br />SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER APPOINTED <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />appointment of L. Kent Wilcox, employed by the South Bend Police Department, <br />as a special police officer. <br />REQUEST TO TRANSFER FUNDS -_POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of the Police Department <br />for permission to transfer $2000.00 from Account P-265 (services contractual) <br />to Account P-252 (repair of equipment) and $500.00 from Account P-265 to <br />Account P-262 (medical, surgical and dental) was referred to the Deputy <br />Controller for review and recommendation. <br />STATISTICAL REPORTS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Statistical reports for the month of October, 1970, of the Police Department <br />were reviewed and ordered filed. ' <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the follow- <br />ing matters were taken up. <br />2410-2412 W. Ford Street. Gene -'Arnett, owner, and attorney Morris Rosen appeared be- <br />fore the Board. Mr. Arnett stated that he intends to rehabilitate this property <br />and will start immediately to repair the roof and clean up the outside. <br />Mr. Arnett was informed that because of his failure to bring the property up to <br />standard and to respond to notices, contract was awarded on October 26, 1970, <br />to the Midwest Demolition Company for the demolition of the structure. Mr. <br />Rosen stated that demolition had not commenced and that he had discussed the <br />matter with Mr. Lowe of that Company and believed Mr. Lowe would be agreeable <br />to rescinding this contract. <br />Mr. Crumpacker moved that the matter of the contract for demolition of the <br />structure at 2410-2412 W. Ford Street be held in abeyance four weeks on con- <br />dition, first, that the written consent of Midwest Demolition Company be secured <br />rescinding the existing contract and, second,*that substantial progress be <br />shown within that time toward the rehabilitation of this property.
