<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M.
<br />on'November 2, 1970, with all members present. The minutes of the previous
<br />meeting were reviewed and approved.
<br />OPEN BIDS - CONSTRUCTION OF LOGAN-36TH STREET STORM SEWER AND LAGOON "Kit
<br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the construction of Logan-36th
<br />Street storm sewer and Lagoon "K," the Clerk tendered proofs of publication
<br />of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on the 16th day
<br />of October and on the 23rd day of October, 1970, which were read and found
<br />to be proper. All bids were accompanied by non collusion affidavit, bid bond
<br />in the amount of 9/o of the bid, and Indiana State Board of Accounts Form
<br />96-a (bidder's financial statement). The following bids were received:

<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENTS
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, and upon the recommendation of Fire
<br />Chief Joseph L. Zurat, the following appointments were made to the South
<br />Bend Fire Department effective November 2, 1970:

<br />Thomas R. Janowiak Dale R. Wedel
<br />Stephen M. Sayer
<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and
<br />approved the retirement of fireman John Gish effective November 7, 1970,
<br />fireman Gish having been appointed to the Department October 26, 1943, and
<br />having served 27 years on the Fire Department.
<br />REQUESTS O INSPECT FIRE APPARATUS FACTORY - FIRE DEPARTMENT
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board authorized the"rookie class"
<br />of the Fire Department to visit the John Bean Factory in Tipton, Indiana,
<br />for a training session and to inspect fire apparatus, December 7, 1970.
