October 26, 1970. <br />1 <br />I_ J <br />1 <br />A regular meeting of the -Board of <br />A.M., with all members present. <br />RETIREMENT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and <br />approved the retirement of Joseph T. Jelinski from the South Bend Fire <br />Department effective`October 24, 1970. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The application of David Jay Bailey for appointment to the South Bend -Fire <br />Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director <br />for further processing. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />The applications of Stephen Lamar Adams and Charles Edwin Weikel, III, were <br />filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, and upon the <br />recommendation of Police Chief Loren M. Bussert, the Board approved the <br />appointment of Daniel Charles Dutrieux as a;.special police officer for the <br />St. Joseph Hospital. <br />RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and <br />approved the retirement of Leo Kwasneski from the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment effective October 31, 1970. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />2712 S. Main Street. Mr. Adamson reported'he has heard nothing from the owner <br />regarding demolition of the structure at 2712 S. Main Street. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />618 E. Washington Street. Mr. Adamson reported the building closed. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of 618 E. Washington Street <br />was continued indefinitely and the Sub -Standards Director was requested to <br />keep the property under surveillance. <br />122 N. St. Louis Street. Mr. Adamson reported the owner has been unable to <br />obtain demolitionrbids and wishes the City to demolish the structure. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director <br />was authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 122 N. <br />St. Louis Street. <br />722 E. Miner Street. Mr. Adamson reported a certified letter addressed to <br />one of the heirs to this property has been returned "unclaimed", and that he <br />now has contacted all of the owners to his knowledge; that the building is <br />open and has been vandalized. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition <br />of the structure at 722 E.Miner Street. <br />1210 South Bend Avenue. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />the matter of 1210 South Bend Avenue was continued two weeks for the Sub - <br />Standards Director to contact the new owners. <br />2116 Western Avenue. Vpon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the <br />matter of 2116 Western Avenue was continued two weeks at the request of Mr. <br />Adamson. <br />
