RE 10/19/70 POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENTS Upon motion made, seconded and,unanimousl.y carried, and upon the recommenda- tion of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, the following men were appointed to the South Bend Police Department, effective as of October 16, 1970: William L. Bernhardt Paul F. Niezgodzki Leonard M. Grummell James T. Mumford John R. Hawley POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND RIOT CONTROL SCMOOL Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for Division Chief Kenneth McDonald and Captain Richard Albright to attend the riot control school at Fort Gordon, Atlanta, Georgia, November 15 through November 21, 1970, and to use Mechanical Vehicle 2-A for transportation. POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPL1CATIONS_FOR APPOINTMENT The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police De- partment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Stephen Becsei, Jr. Richard Edward Lee Dennis Ray Beavo Charles (Frederick Niebauer Wayne Riley Cannady James Michael Slater Thomas Edmund Goepfrich POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO -ATTEND INSTITUTE ON NARCOTICS, APRIL. 1971 Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Police Chief Loren M. Bussert for Sergeant Richard Thomas, of the South Bend Police Narcotics Division, to attend a 10 weeks institute on narcotics and dangerous drugs, to be conducted by,.the United States Depart-, ment of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, commencing in April, 1971. POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT Statistical report of the Police Department for September, 1970, was reviewed and ordered filed. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up., 1041 LaSalle Court. Edith Wolff, widow of Arthur Wolff, did not appear as requested. Mr..Adamson reported Mrs. Wolff has written that "she will re- linquish the property to the City." Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at1041 LaSalle Court . 235 N. Studebaker Street. Clell F. Ewing appeared before the Board as requested and stated that he has cleaned up the premises and secured the building and hopes next year to sell the property. Upon motion made, seconded and unani- mously carried, the matter of 235 N. Studebaker Street was continued indefinitely on condition that the.property be kept closed and the exterior clean and orderly. 121 E. Paris Street. Nelson Jennings Sims appeared before the Board as re- quested. In a letter presented by Mr. Adamson, Mr. Jennings stated he does not intend to do anything with the property. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 121 E. Paris Street. 2712 S. Main Street. Johnnie B. Nammons appeared before the Board as requested but left before this matter was reached. Upon motion made, seconded and carried the matter of 2712 S. Main Street was continued one week. 2808 Pleasant Street. Billy 0. Mummey appeared before the Board as requested and stated that he intends to start repairs of this structure this week. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued indefinitely on condition that the structure be kept closed.
