RE <br />10/19/70 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENTS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and,unanimousl.y carried, and upon the recommenda- <br />tion of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, the following men were appointed <br />to the South Bend Police Department, effective as of October 16, 1970: <br />William L. Bernhardt Paul F. Niezgodzki <br />Leonard M. Grummell James T. Mumford <br />John R. Hawley <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND RIOT CONTROL SCMOOL <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for Division Chief Kenneth <br />McDonald and Captain Richard Albright to attend the riot control school <br />at Fort Gordon, Atlanta, Georgia, November 15 through November 21, 1970, <br />and to use Mechanical Vehicle 2-A for transportation. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPL1CATIONS_FOR APPOINTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police De- <br />partment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director <br />for further processing: <br />Stephen Becsei, Jr. Richard Edward Lee <br />Dennis Ray Beavo Charles (Frederick Niebauer <br />Wayne Riley Cannady James Michael Slater <br />Thomas Edmund Goepfrich <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO -ATTEND INSTITUTE ON NARCOTICS, APRIL. 1971 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Police Chief Loren M. Bussert for Sergeant Richard Thomas, of the <br />South Bend Police Narcotics Division, to attend a 10 weeks institute on <br />narcotics and dangerous drugs, to be conducted by,.the United States Depart-, <br />ment of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, commencing in <br />April, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT <br />Statistical report of the Police Department for September, 1970, was reviewed <br />and ordered filed. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up., <br />1041 LaSalle Court. Edith Wolff, widow of Arthur Wolff, did not appear as <br />requested. Mr..Adamson reported Mrs. Wolff has written that "she will re- <br />linquish the property to the City." Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition <br />of the structure at1041 LaSalle Court . <br />235 N. Studebaker Street. Clell F. Ewing appeared before the Board as requested <br />and stated that he has cleaned up the premises and secured the building and <br />hopes next year to sell the property. Upon motion made, seconded and unani- <br />mously carried, the matter of 235 N. Studebaker Street was continued indefinitely <br />on condition that the.property be kept closed and the exterior clean and orderly. <br />121 E. Paris Street. Nelson Jennings Sims appeared before the Board as re- <br />quested. In a letter presented by Mr. Adamson, Mr. Jennings stated he does <br />not intend to do anything with the property. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids <br />for demolition of the structure at 121 E. Paris Street. <br />2712 S. Main Street. Johnnie B. Nammons appeared before the Board as requested <br />but left before this matter was reached. Upon motion made, seconded and carried <br />the matter of 2712 S. Main Street was continued one week. <br />2808 Pleasant Street. Billy 0. Mummey appeared before the Board as requested <br />and stated that he intends to start repairs of this structure this week. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued indefinitely <br />on condition that the structure be kept closed. <br />
