11,94, 9/28/70 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT -Applications (cont) <br />Norman Dotson, Jr. <br />Robert Earl Minies <br />Leonard Onus Nichols <br />Albert Bernard Van Ooteghem, Jr. <br />Statistical Report <br />The South Bend Police Department Statistical Report for the month of <br />August, 1970 was filed. <br />The Police Department Crime Report in a selected area under Redevelopment <br />and Urban Renewal covering January 1, 1970 through June 30, 1970 was <br />filed. <br />Requests <br />A request was submitted by Police Chief Loren M. Bussert to be granted <br />permission by the Board to attend the annual conference of the Inter- <br />national Chiefs of Police from October 2 thru October 9, 1970 in Atlan- <br />tic City, New Jersey, and a further request to utilize South Bend Mech- <br />anical 1A for the purpose of transportation to the conference. The re- <br />quest was, upon motion made, seconded and carried, approved by the Board. <br />WALNUT STREET BETWEEN EWING AND PRAIRIE AVENUE - APPEARANCE OF RESIDENTS <br />Mrs, James Root and other area residents appealed to the Board to dis- <br />cuss their street and what steps could be taken to remedy the situation <br />which exists there. It was agreed that Mr. Taylor would research into <br />an estimated cost for slurry -sealing the street. <br />Letters regarding the condition of the street from area businesses were of <br />filed with the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT -DIVISION OF SUB -STANDARD BUILDINGS <br />James W. Adamson, Director of the Division of Sub -Standard Buildings, <br />appeared before the Board, and the following matters were taken up; <br />722 East Miner Street. Mrs. Rose Gray, Administratrix for the Veronica <br />Nemeth Life Estate, appeared before the Board and stated that there <br />were no funds in the estate to take care of this property. She stated <br />that the other heirs, many of whom she could not identify, showed lack <br />of interest and concern for the property. As there was no evidence in <br />the Sub -Standards file as to who those persons are with legal right to <br />the property, this matter was continued one week until Mr. Adamson's <br />Department does a title search to the property through an abstract ` <br />company. <br />r <br />1105 South Carroll Street. Neither Ronald W. nor Gladys Kopala appear- <br />ed as requested. Mr. Adamson had no return receipt of the certified <br />letter. This matter was continued one week in lieu of response to <br />the letter. <br />401 East Dubail Street. Neither James nor Muriel Carpenter appear- <br />ed as requested. In view of the history of this building, a motion <br />was made, seconded and carried to authorize Mr. Adamson's Department <br />to advertise for bids for the demolition of the property at 401 E, <br />Dubail street. <br />214 East Elder Street. Neither Dizzo J. nor Grace V. Horvath appear- <br />ed as requested. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Sub - <br />Standards Office was authorized to seek bids for the demolition of <br />the property at 214 East Elder Street. <br />210 East Elder Street. Mrs. Leona Bennett did not appear. Mr. Adamson <br />has in file from the owner a letter granting the city permission to seek <br />bids for the demolition of the property; therefore, upon motion made, r <br />seconded and carried, Sub -Standards was authorized to advertise for <br />bids for the demolition of the property at 210 East Elder Street. <br />
