September 14, 1970 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35_ <br />A.M:, on September 14, 1970, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />meetings August 24 and August 31, 1970, were reviewed and approved. <br />OPEN BIDS <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3284 —VINE STREET, 32nd STREET TO 34th STREET <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3285 - VINE STREET, 34th TTR.EET TO 35th STREET, <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTIO.'N':'NO. 3286 - VINE STREET, 35th STREET TO 36th STREET <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of Vine Street, <br />from 32nd,Street to 36th.Street, by constructing a Class C pavement, the Clerk <br />tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri <br />County News 'on.August 28 and September 4, 1970, which were read and found to <br />be sufficient. <br />The bid of Rieth-Riley Construction Company, Inc., P. 0. Box 775, South Bend, <br />Indiana, 46624 was the only bid received. Non collusion affidavit was found <br />to.be proper. .The bid was accompanied by a bid bond of 5%.of the bid and <br />by financial statement of bidders (Form.96-a.of.*the;State.Board of Accounts) <br />�-i and was as follows: <br />00 <br />Pavement: Class C, Type ILIA - $26,136.90 <br />Class C, Type IV - $21,925.25 <br />Q Storm Clay Pipe - $33,191.00' <br />Sewer: Concrete pipe 1$26.695.00 <br />Completion date - 60 calendar days after contract is awarded. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bid was .referred to <br />Clyde E. Williams and Associates, Inc., consulting engineers, for study and <br />recommendation. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />1005 W. Queen Street. The Sub -Standards Director submitted to the Board <br />a letter from the South Bend Lathe Credit Union agreeing to the demolition <br />of this structure. Thereupon, the motion was made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried to authorize the Sub -Standards Director to seek bids for demolition <br />of the structure at 1005 Queen Street. <br />505 Kalorama Street. Neither Joseph Sergio nor Charles Hass appeared before <br />the Board as requested and the Sub -Standards Director reported he has heard <br />nothing from them. `Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the <br />matter was continued one week. <br />314 E. Keasey. John Kapsalis appeared before the Board as requested. Neither <br />Mary Lee Brown nor Cleveland Brown, land contractor buyers, appeared as re- <br />quested. Mr. Kapsalis stated the land contract buyers are behind in their <br />payments and he is agreeable to the structure being demolished. It was moved, <br />seconded and unanimously carried that the Sub -Standards Director be.authorized <br />to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 314 E. Keasey Street. _ <br />1150-11502 S. Franklin Street. Mrs. Brinley, daughter of Marian and Liewiecki, <br />appeared before the'Board and stated her parents are willing to have the <br />structure taken down. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />the matter of 1150-T1502 S. Franklin Street was continued two weeks to permit <br />the owners to close up the building or have it demolished. <br />138 S. Meade Street. Y. B. Williams appeared as requested. Mr. Williams <br />stated he is waiting to sell the property to the Department of Redevelopment <br />and will close it�up in the meantime. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />the matter was continued indefinitely.on the condition that the owner close <br />the premises and remove all debris from the exterior and keep it that way. <br />
