August 31, 1970 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M. on August 31, 1970, with S. J. Crumpacker and James A. Bickel present. S. J. Crumpacker acted as chairman of the meeting. FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Joseph Anthony Kovach Leo Bernard Thirion Randolph Joseph Magdalinski Harold Gene Traxler Kenneth Louis Szulczyk Eugene John Witowski POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Daniel Thaddeus Karaszewski James John Radeizkowski Donald Louis Kuzmits Norval Jerome Williams Peter Jay Parrish BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up. Demolition bids opened; This being the date set, bids for demolition of the following properties were opened. Non collusion affidavits were found to be proper. Bids were: 623 N. Birdsell: Midwest Demolition Co. $ 714.00 O'Neal Trucking Co. 974.00 Bryant Excavating Co. 1,085.00 Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for demolition of the structure at 623 N. Birdsell Street was awarded to Midwest Demolition Company on its low bid of $714.00. 2116 Western Avenue: Midwest Demolition Co. $4,413.00 Bryant Excavating Co. 5,700.00 O'Neal Trucking Co. 4,728.00 At the request of the Sub -Standards Director, award of contract for demolition of the structure at 2116 Western Avenue was deferred until Tuesday, September 8, 1970. Request for owners of sub -standard properties to appear before Board 9/14/70 Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of the Sub -Standards Director for the following persons to appear before the Board on September 14, 1970, to show cause why the following properties should not be demolished, was approved: 1005 Queen Street - 505 Kelorama Street 314 E.`Keasey Street r - 138 S. Meade St. - 1150-115o'—z S. Franklin St. - 3509 Pleasant St. - 626 Harrison St. - 717 E. Broadway - South Bend Lathe Employees Fed. Cr.
