August 31, 1970 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on August 31, 1970, with S. J. Crumpacker and James A. Bickel present. <br />S. J. Crumpacker acted as chairman of the meeting. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment <br />to the <br />South <br />Bend Fire Department <br />were filed with the Board and referred to the <br />Personnel <br />Director for further <br />processing: <br />Joseph Anthony Kovach <br />Leo Bernard <br />Thirion <br />Randolph Joseph Magdalinski <br />Harold <br />Gene <br />Traxler <br />Kenneth Louis Szulczyk <br />Eugene <br />John <br />Witowski <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment <br />to the <br />South <br />Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred <br />to the <br />Personnel <br />Director for <br />further processing: <br />Daniel Thaddeus Karaszewski <br />James <br />John <br />Radeizkowski <br />Donald Louis Kuzmits <br />Norval <br />Jerome Williams <br />Peter Jay Parrish <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />Demolition bids opened; <br />This being the date set, bids for demolition of the following properties were <br />opened. Non collusion affidavits were found to be proper. Bids were: <br />623 N. Birdsell: <br />Midwest Demolition Co. $ 714.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. 974.00 <br />Bryant Excavating Co. 1,085.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for demolition of the structure <br />at 623 N. Birdsell Street was awarded to Midwest Demolition Company on its low <br />bid of $714.00. <br />2116 Western Avenue: <br />Midwest Demolition Co. $4,413.00 <br />Bryant Excavating Co. 5,700.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. 4,728.00 <br />At the request of the Sub -Standards Director, award of contract for demolition <br />of the structure at 2116 Western Avenue was deferred until Tuesday, September 8, <br />1970. <br />Request for owners of sub -standard properties to appear before Board 9/14/70 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of the Sub -Standards <br />Director for the following persons to appear before the Board on September 14, <br />1970, to show cause why the following properties should not be demolished, <br />was approved: <br />1005 Queen Street - <br />505 Kelorama Street <br />314 E.`Keasey Street r - <br />138 S. Meade St. - <br />1150-115o'—z S. Franklin St. - <br />3509 Pleasant St. - <br />626 Harrison St. - <br />717 E. Broadway - <br />South Bend Lathe Employees Fed. Cr. Union <br />Joseph Sergio and Charles Hass <br />Mary Lee and Cleveland Brown and John Kapsalis <br />Y.B.
