Auguvt 3, 1970 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M.,"on August 3, 1970. `Present were S. J..Crumpacker, who acted as chair- man of the meeting,'and James A. Bickel. The minutes of the previous meet- ing were reviewed and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT The application of Luther James Taylor for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Robert Evan Brown Jimmie Walker V"q POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION 00 6. Upon motion made seconded and carried the Board approved the recommendation. of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the promotion of Corporal Paul Kozak to the rank of Captain, effective August 1, 1970.. POLICE DEPARTMENT - MILITARY DUTY Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved leave for military duty at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, from July 26, 1970 through August 6, 1970, of officer John Brassell. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up. 427 N. Hill Street. Mrs. Anna Stancati, owner, and her son Guy Stancati appeared before the Board. Mr. Stancati reported the building has been boarded up many times but has repeatedly been broken into; that the building is solid and they are going to repair it. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued indefinitely and the Sub -Standards Director was requested to keep the property under surveillance. 1501 S. Lebanon. Mr. Adamson reported the owner of this property has advised him that she will close the structure and repair it. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued indefinitely and the Sub - standards Director was requested to keep the property under surveillance. 1022 S. 35th Street (on the complaint of Wm. Munich and others). Mr. Adamson reported this house and the accessory building are open and that old appliances and trash were found on the porch. Mr. Adamson was directed to notify the owner, Patrick Meyers, to appear before the Board. 625 Columbia Street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, this matter was continued two weeks to permit the Sub -Standards Department more time in which to relocate the occupant of this house. 614 Columbia Street. Mr. Adamson reported he -has had no response from Mrs. Howard, land contract buyer, to a certified letter and a night letter; that the house has had a fire and is wide open; that Maude Montiga is the owner of the property. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 614 South Bend Avenue. 3707 Belle Vista. Mr. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, reported he has been unable to get in touch with the owner, G. W. Benson, who works out of town; that the property, which was badly damaged by fire several months ago, was partially demolished by a contractor hired by the owner but that the demolition has never been completed, and the garage still stands. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter pertaining to 3707 Belle Vista was referred to the Legal Department for appropriate action.
