<br />COMPLAINT RE: CONDITION OF 2105 GERTRUDE STREET - FRED DITTMAN
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the complaint of Fred Dittman,
<br />2111 Gertrude Street, South Bend, Indiana, regarding "junk" cars and
<br />other articles in the back yard at 2105 Gertrude Street, was referred
<br />to the Building Department and to Cecil McHenry, investigator for the
<br />Board of Public Works and Safety in matters pertaining to "junk" cars,
<br />for investigation and recommendation to the Board.
<br />COMPLAINT OF MRS. LEONARD AND ERSON
<br />Mrs. Leonard Anderson, 924 E. Dayton Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared
<br />before the Board and related an incident wherein her home had been entered
<br />and considerable damage done, including the beating of her cats, and com-
<br />plained of the action of the Police Department in regard thereto. The
<br />Board will check into the matter.
<br />Complaint and request of the Project Area Committee, Neighborhood Develop-
<br />ment Program, South Bend, Indiana, by Garrett Mullins, President, for.
<br />improved conditions, namely, curb repair, street cleaning, more street light-
<br />ing, improved drainage, curfew enforcement and foot patrol, in the area
<br />bounded by High, Monroe, Franklin and Calvert Streets, upon motion made,
<br />seconded and carried, was referred to the Engineering Department for study
<br />and recommendation.
<br />PARKING METER REMOVAL APPROVED - WESTERN AVENUE
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation
<br />of the Traffic Engineering Department for the removal of parking meters
<br />#2 through #20 (10 meters) on the south side of Western Avenue, between
<br />Lafayette and Franklin, in order to provide an access cut at Sears, Roebuck
<br />and Company on the south side of the 300 block of Western Avenue as approved
<br />by the Area Plan Commission Technical Review Committee.
<br />REQUEST TO ERECT TENT - RIVER PARK LIONS CLUB
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of the River Park Lions
<br />Club, P. 0. Box 2021, South Bend, Indiana, 46615, by D. G. Reamer, Chairman,
<br />for permission to erect a tent at 25th Street and Mishawaka Avenue on
<br />September 26, 1970, for the River Park Lion's Club chicken barbecue,.was
<br />referred to the Building Commissioner for investigation and recommendation
<br />to the Board.
<br />COMPLAINT - NOISY MUFFLERS
<br />The request of the Common Council, througP the City Clerk's office, that
<br />the anti -noise muffler law within the city limits be more rigidly enforced,
<br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, was referred to the Police Department
<br />and the Legal Department for appropriate action.
<br />REQUEST TO PAINT HOUSE NUMBERS ON CURBING - PHILIP D. HAUGEN
<br />Philip D. Haugen, 53362 Juniper Road, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before the
<br />Board to request permission to paint house numbers on curbing in the resi-
<br />dential area within the City as a means of summer employment for himself and
<br />several other college students, explaining that the numbers would be painted
<br />on in an area, with the students later solicitating voluntary donations for
<br />their work. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, permission was granted
<br />to paint house numbers on the curbing, with the understanding that if
<br />objections were made by the residents, such permission would then be withdrawn.
<br />STREET LIGHTING APPROVED - AREA OF YORK, JACKSON AND IRONWOOD
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation
<br />of the Traffic Engineering Department for street lighting in the area around
<br />the- 4-H Fairgrounds (York, Jackson and Ironwood) as follows:
