<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30
<br />A.M., on July 20, 1970. Present were Lloyd S. Taylor, City Engineer, and
<br />James A. Bickel, City Controller. Mr. Bickel acted as chairman of the meeting.
<br />The minutes of the previous two meetings were reviewed and approved.
<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - XXXKXWXXXMNXXOXXXXNNXNXD NNXREQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE
<br />UoonaTotion:made, seconded and carried, the request of Fire Chief Joseph L.
<br />Zurat for permission to attend the 97th annual conference of the International
<br />Association of. Fire Chiefs in Seattle, Washington, from August 8 to August 13,
<br />19.70, was approved.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT
<br />The application of David Alan Hamilton for appointment to the South Bend
<br />Police Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel
<br />Director for further processing.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - LEAVE FOR MILITARY DUTY
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved leave for military
<br />duty for police officer Dennis Lee Severns at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, July 4,
<br />to July 18, 1970.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT -.SICK LEAVE EXTENDED - SOT. RALPM BUKOWSKI
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Chief of Police Loren
<br />M. Bussert for an extension of time to cover the period of recuperation of
<br />Sergeant Ralph Bukowski, injured in an automotile accident on his way to work
<br />on or about June 13, 1970, was approved by the Board.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT FOR JUNE, 1970
<br />Statistical reports of the Police Department for June, 1970, were reviewed and
<br />ordered filed.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - CONTRACT AWARDED FOR UNIFORMS
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for uniforms for the Police
<br />Department for the year commencing June 1, 1970, was awarded to Gerber Manu -
<br />facturing Company.
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up.
<br />2116 Western Street: Steven J. Tsalikis, Niles, Michigan, appeared before the
<br />Board and stated this property belonged to his father, now deceased; that they
<br />intend to sell it and if this is not possible, then they will have it demolished.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued four weeks for
<br />the owners to sell the property.
<br />1325 Liston. Mr. Adamson reported repairs are being made to this property.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued indefinitely
<br />and the Sub -Standards Director was requested to keep the property under sur-
<br />veillance,
<br />625 Columbia. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, this matter was con-
<br />tinued two weeks at the request of Mr. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director.
<br />1613 S. Leer Street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, this matter was
<br />continued two weeks at the request of Mr. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director.
<br />Demolition bids opened;
<br />This being the date set; bids for demolition of structures at the following
<br />addresses were opened and non collusion affidavits were found to be proper.
