May 18, 1970. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., in May 18, 1970, with all members present. The minutes.of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />BIDS - POTOWATOMIE PARK DISPLAY BARN <br />This being the date set for receiving bids on behalf of the Park Department <br />for the construction of a display barn for Potowatom%re Park and no bids <br />having been received, the motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to <br />re -advertise for bids to be received on June 1, 1970. And the Clerk was <br />directed to give notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri <br />County News on May 22 and May 29, 1970. <br />APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />The application of Stephen Michael Sayre for appointment to the South Bend <br />Fire Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel <br />Director for further processing. <br />APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Qc <br />The following applications for appointment with the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Paul Roberson Adams Tommy Floyd Jenkins <br />Gary Lee Amacher James Steven Keltner <br />John Eugene Eaton Kenneth Allen Kwieran <br />Andrew Joe Grywczynski Neil F. M. <br />Jewell to be excused for military duty at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, July 11 <br />through July 25, 1970,-was approved. <br />RIDING POLICE PATROL - LORIN JAMES TOMASZEWSKI, NOTR'E DAME STUDENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request for permission to allow Lorin James Tomaszewski, Notre Dame Student, <br />W.S.N.D. News Department, to accompany the Police Patrol Unit during May, <br />1970. <br />RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - WILLIAM A. RYAN <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted <br />and approved the resignation from the South Bend Police Department of <br />William A. Ryan, effective June 1, 1970. <br />STATISTICAL REPORT FOR APRIL, 1970 - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />1111 S. Lafayette Street. Nick Churchich appeared before the Board as requested, <br />and stated he is willing to have the property demolished.. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized <br />to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 1111 S. Lafayette Street. <br />2808 Pleasant Street. Billy Mummey appeared before the Board as requested, <br />and stated he intends to repair the house, and that he will close up the <br />structure. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was <br />continued one week to permit the owner to close op the structure. <br />1237 Van ,Buren Street. Neither Glen nor Vanessa Strouss appeared as requested. <br />Mr. Adamson reported the building is open, and that he has heard nothing from <br />the certified letter mailed to the Strousses. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />unanimously carried, the matter was continued one week tp permit the Sub - <br />Standards Director an opportunity to contact the owners in person. <br />1218 S. Carroll Street. Frank and Amelia Bender appeared before the Board as <br />requested. <br />
