May 18, 1970. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M., in May 18, 1970, with all members present. The minutes.of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. BIDS - POTOWATOMIE PARK DISPLAY BARN This being the date set for receiving bids on behalf of the Park Department for the construction of a display barn for Potowatom%re Park and no bids having been received, the motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried to re -advertise for bids to be received on June 1, 1970. And the Clerk was directed to give notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on May 22 and May 29, 1970. APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT The application of Stephen Michael Sayre for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT Qc The following applications for appointment with the South Bend Police Depart- ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Paul Roberson Adams Tommy Floyd Jenkins Gary Lee Amacher James Steven Keltner John Eugene Eaton Kenneth Allen Kwieran Andrew Joe Grywczynski Neil F. Rogers Tommy Lee Hill John T. West MILITARY DUTY - P. M. JEWELL Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the,request of Police Officer P. M. Jewell to be excused for military duty at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, July 11 through July 25, 1970,-was approved. RIDING POLICE PATROL - LORIN JAMES TOMASZEWSKI, NOTR'E DAME STUDENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request for permission to allow Lorin James Tomaszewski, Notre Dame Student, W.S.N.D. News Department, to accompany the Police Patrol Unit during May, 1970. RESIGNATION FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - WILLIAM A. RYAN Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and approved the resignation from the South Bend Police Department of William A. Ryan, effective June 1, 1970. STATISTICAL REPORT FOR APRIL, 1970 - POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up: 1111 S. Lafayette Street. Nick Churchich appeared before the Board as requested, and stated he is willing to have the property demolished.. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 1111 S. Lafayette Street. 2808 Pleasant Street. Billy Mummey appeared before the Board as requested, and stated he intends to repair the house, and that he will close up the structure. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued one week to permit the owner to close op the structure. 1237 Van ,Buren Street. Neither Glen nor Vanessa Strouss appeared as requested. Mr. Adamson reported the building is open, and that he has heard nothing from the certified letter mailed to the Strousses. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued one week tp permit the Sub - Standards Director an opportunity to contact the owners in person. 1218 S. Carroll Street. Frank and Amelia Bender appeared before the Board as requested.
