April 27, 1970. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M. <br />on April 27, 1970, with all members present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT OF JOHN ODUSCH <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />retirement of John Odusch from the South Bend Fire Department, effective <br />May 1, 1970, Mr. Odusch having been appointed December 16, 1933, and having <br />served more than 36 years. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT.- REQUEAT TO ATTEND INSTITUTE IN INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for firemen Larry Nitka, Dennis DeBuysser, <br />Wilbur Bollinger and Calvin Everly to attend the Emergency Medical Services <br />Institute April 30 and May 1, 1970, in Indianapolis, Indiana. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - RE: HOSPITAL DRIVE <br />JC <br />., In reference to participation of the Fire Department in connection with the <br />hospital expansion drive, it was suggested by the Board that the Department <br />investigate as to how best they might participate. <br />APPLICATIONS - FIRE -DEPARTMENT <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department <br />were filed with the B oard and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Randy L. Borror Eugene Page, Jr. <br />Philip Norman Gatton Daniel Walter Wisniewski <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Larry Sylvester Jones Raynard Stanley Taberski <br />James Hunter Moore John Richard Woods - <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT_ - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />C: J. Davis, demolition contractor, appeared before the Board, together- with <br />his attorney John Gonas. Mr. Gonas tendered demolition bond #4234365.and <br />occupancy bond #138724 of the Western Surety Company, dated April 24, 1970, <br />on behalf of Mr. Davis, which bonds were examined and upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, were approved by the Board. <br />It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that A & J Demolition Company <br />be authorized to complete the demolition at 123 Paris Street. <br />725 S. Fellows Street. Attorney John Gonas, representing the! owner, stated <br />the owner is in the process of closing the building and hopes to sell it. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the matter was continued <br />indefinitely and the Sub -Standards Director was requested to keep the property <br />under surveillance. Continuance granted on condition premises are kept closed. <br />517 E. Bronson (accessory building). Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for the demolition <br />of the accessory building at 517 E. Bronson Street. <br />505 Kalorama Street. Joseph Sergio and Charles Hass appeared before the -Board <br />as requested. Mr. Hass stated they intend to bring the property up to standard <br />and are in the process of cleaning up the premises. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and unanimously carried, the matter was continued indefinitely on condition <br />that the property be kept secured. <br />331 Kuntsman Court. Attorney Louis Anderson, representing the estate of Etta <br />Flora, appeared before the Board. Upon motion made, seconded and carried; the <br />matter was continued one week for a decision from the owners.as to whether they <br />will demolish the property or fix it up. <br />
