April 20, 1970.. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on April 20, 1970, with S. J. Crumpacker and James A. Bickel present. <br />The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />OPEN BIDS - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3294 - ALLEY BETWEEN NOTRE DAME AND <br />ST. PETER STREET <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the improvement of the alley <br />in the 200 block of North Notre Dame Avenue, from Notre Dame to St.Peter . <br />Street, by constructing a Class C, Type I concrete pavement, the Clerk tendered <br />proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on <br />April 10 and April 17, 1970, which were read and found to be proper, The <br />Following bids were received: <br />Hoekstra Concrete Co., Inc., 2219 Beogan Street, South Bend, Indiana. Non <br />collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The bid was accompanied by a bid <br />bond in the amount of $250.00. The total bid was $3,984.00. <br />McIntyre & Jones Construction Co., Inc., 2526 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, Indiana. <br />Non collusion affidavit was examined and found to be proper. The bid was <br />accompanied by a bid bond of 5% of the amount of the bid'. The total bid was <br />$3,366.00. <br />Valley Construction Company, Inc., P. 0. Box Mishawaka, R. R. #7, Lafayette, <br />Indiana. Non collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The bid was accompanied <br />by a bid bond of 5% of the total bid. The total bid was $2,677.50. <br />There being no other bids, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were <br />referred to Clyde E. Williams & Associates, Inc., consulting.engineers, for <br />study and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE, DAYTON, OHIO - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for Lt. Carl Zwierzynski to attend the annual <br />Associated Public Safety Officer, Inc., conference in -Dayton, Ohio, April 23 <br />and 24, 1970, pertaining to fire and police emergency communications. <br />REQUEST TO HOLD BICYCLE AUCTION - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />the Police Department to hold an auction of unclaimed bicycles on Friday, May <br />22, 1970, at 1:00 P.M., at Municipal Services Building, 701 W. Sample Street. <br />And the Clerk was directed to give notice by publication in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri County News on April 24, and May 1, 1970. <br />REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO PROVIDE POLICE ESCORT -_ BLOSSOMTIME FESTIVAL, ST. <br />JOSEPH, M I CH IGAN <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert to provide a police escort for the Blossomtime <br />Parade in St. Joseph, Michigan, May 9, 1970. <br />n <br />APPLICATION FOR APPO VI'MENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - RONALD D. SILCOTT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the appointment <br />of Ronald D.
