<br />DEMOLITION CONTRACTOR, C. J. DAVIS
<br />C. J. Davis, demolition contractor, appeared before the Board.
<br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, reported to the Board that Mr. Davis,
<br />who is demolishing the structure at 751 S. Michigan Street for the owner,
<br />Mrs. Boadway, of Miami, Florida, has not complied with the law in the
<br />demolition of1the structure in that bricks and debris are on the.sidewalk,
<br />that protection for pedestrians has not been provided, and that the building
<br />next door has been damaged and is in a dangerous condition; and,.further,
<br />that Mr. Davis's bond expired in February, 1970, and nothing is on file
<br />in the Building Department to substantiate that it is in force. Mr. Davis
<br />stated that his bond has never been cancelled and is in force; and that he
<br />will provide the Board with proof as soon as he can get in touch with his
<br />bonding company.
<br />Mr. Davis was advised by'the City Attorney that no further work should be.
<br />done by him until a bond is properly in effect.
<br />APPOINTMENT TO POLICE DEPARTMENT - MAURICE V. WOODS
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the'Board approved the appointment
<br />to the South Bend Police Department, of Maurice-V. Woods, effective
<br />April 16, 1970, upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert.
<br />REMONSTRANCE AGAINST WIDENING JACOB STREET, AT COLFAX AND MCKINLEY
<br />Approximately 25 persons appeared before the Board in reference to the
<br />widening of Jacob Street, at Colfax Avenue and McKinley. Carl Leibowitz, 302 N.
<br />Jacob Street, William J. Reinke, 1415 E. Colfax Avenue, John O'Connell, 1343
<br />E. LaSalle, Rev. Dodgson, 1425, E. McKinley, Otis Walls and Neil Jackman
<br />remonstrated against the widening. Carl Leibowitz, attorney, submitted a
<br />remonstrance signed by 130 persons, which was ordered filed.
<br />Clem F. Hazinski, Traffic Director, appeared before the Board and explained
<br />the widening is necessary to permit trucks using State Highway #20 (Jacob
<br />Street) to turn legally and avoid going over the curb. It was suggested that
<br />four-way stop signs could be installed to help alleviate the situation at
<br />these intersections.
<br />CONDITIONAL TAXICAB LICENSE GRANTED - ROBERT R. INGRIM
<br />Robert R. In,grim appeared before the Board as requested by the City Controller's
<br />office in reference to the issuance of a taxicab driver's license. Upon
<br />review of the application, the motion was made, seconded and carried that a
<br />taxicab driver's license be issued to Mr. Ingrim upon the condition that any
<br />accident chargeable to him will be cause for revocation of the license. The
<br />Clerk was directed to notify the Police Department to make due note and to
<br />notify the Board in the event of any such occurrence.
<br />CONTRACT AWARDED - ROSEMARY LANE SEWER EXTENSION
<br />Upon.motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation
<br />of Pharis-Kasen & Associates, Inc., for the award of contract to Dye Plumbing
<br />and Heating Company for the construction of the Rosemary Lane sewer extension,
<br />on the basis of Alternate.#2 of Item 6 and Alternate B of Item 7, bid being
<br />in the total amount of $29,614.85, and contract was awarded subject to'the
<br />availability of funds.
<br />CONTRACT AWARDED - DRAPERIES FOR COUNTY -CITY BUILDING
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board awarded contract for
<br />draperies for city offices on the 14th, 13th, 12th and 4th floors of the
<br />County City Building, on bids received April 13, 1970, to Wyman's upon their
<br />bid of $5,295.00.
<br />The Board recessed at 11:45 A.M. to be reconvened at 2:30 P.M.
