The east -west alley between Lots 597 and 598 between the east <br />line of Meade Street and the west line of the first north -south <br />alley east of Meade Street. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the petition was referred <br />to the City Engineer for drawing of the area, and then to be referred to the <br />Area Plan Commission for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />METROPOLITAN FIRE ASSOCIATES <br />Fred W. Vaughn, 19623 Glendale Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before <br />the Board and explained the proposed organization of a "fire fan association" <br />under the name of Metropolitan Fire Associates and submitted a copy of its <br />by-laws, which were reviewed by the Board and ordered filed. <br />REQUEST FOR POLICE ESCORT - YOUTH FOR POLLUTION CONTROL DEMONSTRATION <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request for police escort on "Earth Day" April 22, 1970, for a march down <br />town for an anti -pollution demonstration as requested by Lorrie Barret and <br />J. M. Erwin, 9112 California Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, to be participated <br />in by a :group of high school students. <br />REQUEST OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY STUDENT FOUNDATION - RE: BOAT RACE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request of the <br />Indiana University Student Foundation, by Gerald D. Schpok, Safety Chairman, <br />Indiana University, 1825 Northside Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, for <br />the closing of Northside Boulevard, from 20th Street to Greenlawn Avenue, <br />during a row boat race planned for May 4, 1970, and for the attendance of <br />two Fire Department boats during the race, was referred to the Traffic Director <br />and the Fire Chief for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />REQUEST TO SELL POPPIES - BENDIX AMERICAN LEGION POST 284 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Mrs. Helen McDonald, 5313 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, 6n behalf of <br />the Bendix American Legion Post #284 to sell poppies on the down town streets <br />and at the Bendix Gates on May 22 and 23, 1970, approval having been granted <br />for such sales by the Charitable Solicitations Commission. <br />REQUEST OF BETHEL COLLEGE STUDENT ASSOCIATION - "WALKATHON" <br />A request by Russ Steele on behalf of the Bethel College Student Association, <br />Bethel College, 1001 W. McKinley, Mishawaka, Indiana, to hold a "walkathon" <br />fund raising event was continued until April 20, 1970, for further information. <br />REQUEST TO HOLD STREET SERVICES - MRS. MERTICE JONES <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Mrs. Mertice Jones ,M133 N. Huey Street, South Bend, Indiana, to <br />hold street services on West Washington Street and in the Linden and Kaley <br />Schools area, commencing immediately and continuing until approximately the <br />middle of September. <br />
