ri <br />March 2, 1970. <br />Anregular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at°9:38 <br />A.M., on March 2, 1_970,.with all members present. The minutes of the previous <br />meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION - LEWIS LACOSSE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the promotion of Lewis <br />LaCosse from the rank of captain to that of battalion chief, effective March <br />2, 1970. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT.- REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE <br />Upon -motion made, seconded and, unanimously carried, the .Board approved the <br />request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for permission to attend the 42nd annual <br />Fire Department instructors; Conference in Kansas City, Missouri March 24 <br />through March 27, 1970, along with Assistant Chief Eugene Fujawa. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />x The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department <br />i� were filed with the Board --and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />r <br />processing: <br />Robert Anthony Grontkowski <br />Richard David Switalski <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION - EUGENE SIKORSKI <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Chief of Police 'Loren M. Bussert for the promotion of Eugene <br />Sikorski to the rank of sergeant, effective March 1, 1970. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- <br />ment were filed with the Board and refereed to the Personnel Director for <br />further processing: <br />Donald Francis Allen John Michael Massey. <br />Peter Wolfgang Kronberger Jessie J. Shannon <br />Johnie Lottie, Jr. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />116 E.� South Street. Ervin Brown, representing the Chromalloy American <br />Corporation, 120 Broadway, St. Louis, Missouri, appeared before the Board. <br />Mr. Brown stated that repairs to the property would cost more than it was <br />worth and apparently it would have to be taken down. Explanation of the <br />City's procedure for demolition was explained and Mr.;Brown stated they <br />would be willing for the City to demolish the structures. Thereupon, it <br />was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the Sub -Standards Director <br />be authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structures at 116 E. South <br />Stteet. <br />517 S. Rush Street. Neither grant nor Myrtle Hinkson appeared before the Board <br />as requested. Mr. Adamson stated there had been a fire in.the building in <br />January, 1970, and that the premises are'in bad condition. It was moved, <br />seconded and unanimously carried that because of the immediate hazard exist- <br />ing in the structure at 517 S.. Rush Street that the Sub -Standards Director <br />be authorized to seek bids for its immediate demolition. <br />1016 W. Washington Street. No one appeared before the Board on behalf of the <br />St. Joseph County Commissioners as requested. Mr. Adamson stated he had been <br />in contact with them and had expected a representative to be present; that <br />the Commissioners had acquired the property through a tax sate; that the <br />property had been empty for approximately one year; that the outside structure <br />would appear to be sound^but the intererior is in bad shape. Upon motion made, <br />seconded.and unanimously,carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />
