ri March 2, 1970. Anregular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at°9:38 A.M., on March 2, 1_970,.with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION - LEWIS LACOSSE Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for the promotion of Lewis LaCosse from the rank of captain to that of battalion chief, effective March 2, 1970. FIRE DEPARTMENT.- REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE Upon -motion made, seconded and, unanimously carried, the .Board approved the request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for permission to attend the 42nd annual Fire Department instructors; Conference in Kansas City, Missouri March 24 through March 27, 1970, along with Assistant Chief Eugene Fujawa. FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS x The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department i� were filed with the Board --and referred to the Personnel Director for further r processing: Robert Anthony Grontkowski Richard David Switalski POLICE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTION - EUGENE SIKORSKI Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Chief of Police 'Loren M. Bussert for the promotion of Eugene Sikorski to the rank of sergeant, effective March 1, 1970. POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Police Depart- ment were filed with the Board and refereed to the Personnel Director for further processing: Donald Francis Allen John Michael Massey. Peter Wolfgang Kronberger Jessie J. Shannon Johnie Lottie, Jr. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION J. W. Adamson, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up: 116 E.� South Street. Ervin Brown, representing the Chromalloy American Corporation, 120 Broadway, St. Louis, Missouri, appeared before the Board. Mr. Brown stated that repairs to the property would cost more than it was worth and apparently it would have to be taken down. Explanation of the City's procedure for demolition was explained and Mr.;Brown stated they would be willing for the City to demolish the structures. Thereupon, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the Sub -Standards Director be authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structures at 116 E. South Stteet. 517 S. Rush Street. Neither grant nor Myrtle Hinkson appeared before the Board as requested. Mr. Adamson stated there had been a fire in.the building in January, 1970, and that the premises are'in bad condition. It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that because of the immediate hazard exist- ing in the structure at 517 S.. Rush Street that the Sub -Standards Director be authorized to seek bids for its immediate demolition. 1016 W. Washington Street. No one appeared before the Board on behalf of the St. Joseph County Commissioners as requested. Mr. Adamson stated he had been in contact with them and had expected a representative to be present; that the Commissioners had acquired the property through a tax sate; that the property had been empty for approximately one year; that the outside structure would appear to be sound^but the intererior is in bad shape. Upon motion made, seconded.and unanimously,carried, the matter was continued one week.
