August 7, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and _Safety convened <br />at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, August,7, 1972. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />APPLICATIONS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br />Applications for the Fire Department were filed and ordered sent to <br />the Personnel Department'for: <br />Craig Waldemar Carlson Steven Ernest Wieger <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Seals was present and matters pertaining to his department <br />were discussed. <br />The Chief presented the following letter: <br />August 7, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />City of South Bend <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />Your approval of sending Captain James Sweitzer, Commander of the <br />Traffic Bureau, to attend the Indiana Traffic Safety Seminar, to <br />be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on date of August 9, 1972, is <br />hereby respectfully requested. <br />The expense of a registration fee and ttavel only is budgeted within , <br />this Department and will be begligible. <br />Respectfully yours, <br />s/ Robert W. Seals, Chief of Police <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board granted the request <br />and gave permission for Captain Sweitzer to attend the Seminar. <br />The Chief presented the following letter: <br />August 3, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />This office respectfully requests permission to send Detective Sergeant <br />Louis M. Kujawski, one of two currently assigned polygraph Operators <br />of this department, to a polygraph seminar devoted to upgrading pre- <br />test techniques. Thts Seminar is being convened on Dates of August <br />12 and 13 at the Water Tower Hiatt House, Chicago, Illinois, sponsored <br />by the American Polygraph Association and is advised as necessary to <br />keep this departments polygraph capability abreast of recent advances. <br />Funds for this type of in-service training are abailable in this depart- <br />ments budget and your approval will be respectfully appreciated. <br />Sincerely yours, <br />s/ Robert W.
