331 <br />6/5/72 <br />ACTION IN -KIND VOUCHERS FILED <br />ACTION in -kind vouchers covering estimated rental valuation for Fire <br />Stations #5, #7, #8 and #10 were filed for the month of June, 1972. <br />WEIGHTS AND MEASURES REPORT <br />Mr. Bert Cichowicz appeared before the Board and filed his report for <br />the month of May, 1972. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />report was ordered filed. <br />PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT LETTER <br />The following letter was received by the Board: <br />May 31, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works <br />City of South Bend <br />"44 County -City Building <br />r-I <br />M Gentlemen: <br />U The Department of Public Recreation has presented to the Traffic Eng- <br />ineer of the City of South Bend and to representatives of both the <br />South Bend Police and Fire Departments a proposed route for a bicycle <br />trail in the northwest section of the City. These officials have given <br />their approval of the route and I am now presenting it to you for final <br />approval. I would appreciate it if this could be put on the agenda for <br />your June 5th meeting. <br />This route would be laid out so as to use city streets and county <br />streets over a 12 mile route beginning and ending at the Leeper Park <br />Tennis Center building in the 800 block of North Lafayette. <br />From Leeper Park the route would follow Riverside Drive to Pinhook <br />Park, loop into and out of Pinhook Park and continue north on Riverside <br />Drive to the bridge across the St. Joseph river on Darden Road, proceed <br />across the bridge north on Darden Road and turn right on Brooktrails Drive <br />to Kennilworth and south on Kenilworth to Cleveland Road, use the sidewalk <br />on the north side of Cleveland to go west to Riverside Drive, turn left <br />on Riverside and proceed south to the Angola Street Bridge, go east across <br />the bridge and turn to the right on North Shore Blvd., to Michigan Street, <br />go south onMichigan to Leeper Park and then west on Riverside Drive back <br />to the Leeper Park Tennis Center Building. <br />This route will be marked with official signs indicating it as a <br />"Bike Route" and with adequate directional signs. Such a route will nor- <br />mally not have any organized bicycle traffic using it bit will be one <br />which people will be encouraged to use in whatever number they choose at <br />whatever time is convenient for them - seven days a week. <br />I trust that this project will receive your approval. <br />Sincerely, <br />s/ Paul F. After a full discussion the <br />matter was continued one week, until the June 12, 1972 meeting. <br />
