331 6/5/72 ACTION IN -KIND VOUCHERS FILED ACTION in -kind vouchers covering estimated rental valuation for Fire Stations #5, #7, #8 and #10 were filed for the month of June, 1972. WEIGHTS AND MEASURES REPORT Mr. Bert Cichowicz appeared before the Board and filed his report for the month of May, 1972. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the report was ordered filed. PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT LETTER The following letter was received by the Board: May 31, 1972 Board of Public Works City of South Bend "44 County -City Building r-I M Gentlemen: U The Department of Public Recreation has presented to the Traffic Eng- ineer of the City of South Bend and to representatives of both the South Bend Police and Fire Departments a proposed route for a bicycle trail in the northwest section of the City. These officials have given their approval of the route and I am now presenting it to you for final approval. I would appreciate it if this could be put on the agenda for your June 5th meeting. This route would be laid out so as to use city streets and county streets over a 12 mile route beginning and ending at the Leeper Park Tennis Center building in the 800 block of North Lafayette. From Leeper Park the route would follow Riverside Drive to Pinhook Park, loop into and out of Pinhook Park and continue north on Riverside Drive to the bridge across the St. Joseph river on Darden Road, proceed across the bridge north on Darden Road and turn right on Brooktrails Drive to Kennilworth and south on Kenilworth to Cleveland Road, use the sidewalk on the north side of Cleveland to go west to Riverside Drive, turn left on Riverside and proceed south to the Angola Street Bridge, go east across the bridge and turn to the right on North Shore Blvd., to Michigan Street, go south onMichigan to Leeper Park and then west on Riverside Drive back to the Leeper Park Tennis Center Building. This route will be marked with official signs indicating it as a "Bike Route" and with adequate directional signs. Such a route will nor- mally not have any organized bicycle traffic using it bit will be one which people will be encouraged to use in whatever number they choose at whatever time is convenient for them - seven days a week.
