1,259 <br />April 3, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was held <br />on Monday, April 3, 1972, at 9:�O A M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of the -last meeting were read and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Bland appeared before the Board and matters pertaining to his <br />department were discussed. <br />Chief Bland presented the following letter: <br />March 10;.1972 <br />Board of Public W#rks and Safety <br />13th Floor County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Honorable Members of the Board: <br />The 1972 international Association of Arson Investigators Annual <br />Meeting and International Fire and Arson Investigation Seminar is <br />being held on April 10 through 14, 1972 in Cocoa Beach, Florida. <br />I would like very much to have Battallion Chief William H. Wilson, <br />Jr., from the Fire Prevention Bureau, represent the South Bend <br />Fire Department, at this Seminar. <br />Please be advised.that the Indiana Criminal Justice Commission has <br />assisted us in securing funds to cover the cost of this seminar for <br />both the Fire Department and the Police Department representatives. <br />I will appreciate your consideration and approval of this request. <br />Respectfully yours, <br />SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />s/ Jack R. Bland, Fire Chief. <br />JRB/ss <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the above request was granted <br />the Battailion Chief Wilson is permitted to go to the Seminar. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Seals appeared before the Board and matters pertaining to his <br />department were discussed. <br />Chief Seals presented the following letter: <br />March 30, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen - <br />Permission to assign Detective Sergeant William Floring to <br />attendance of the -international Association of Arson Investi- <br />gator's Seminar to be -held at Coca Beach, Florida, on the dates of <br />April 10-14, 1972 is respectfully requested. <br />Full expense of this school has been covered by application for and <br />approval of a Criminal Justice Grant. The Schooling effected by the <br />Association, while advertised as a Seminar and an integral part of the <br />Association's Annual business meetings (held separately from seminar <br />curriculum,) is one of the highest caiibred arson (and associated <br />explosive -device) educational programs In the entire nation and is <br />strongly recommended. <br />
