January 17, 1972 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M. on January 17, 1972. Present were William J. Richardson, City Engineer and James V. Barcome, City Controller. Minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT A letter was received from Stanley Sparazynski, Chairman of the Ball, requesting permisstion to hold its Annual Fireman's Ball on March 24, 1972 at Stepan Center on the Campus at Notre Dame. Upon-nmotion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the request was approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT: Chief Seals presented a letter wherin he requested permission for Sergeant Kenneth Zeider to attend the Smith and Wesson Armorer's School being held in Springfield, Massachusetts, January 24 through February 4. No tuition costs would be required, however the City would be responsible for lodging, trans- portation and per diem. Upon motion made, seconded and Unanimously carried, the Board granted the request. SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - DOROTHA PAXTON r-4 Chief seals recommended that Dorotha Paxton be granted a Special Police Com- in mission. She will be employed at Cook's Discount Store. Upon motion made, "4 seconded and carried the Board approved the commission subject to the receipt of proper bond. f3W LDING DEPARTMENT - SUB STANDARDS DIVISION Mr. Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were discussed. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of the Sub -Standards Director for the following persons to appear before the Board January 31, 1972 in reference to the sub -standard condition of the following properties: 423 Kosciuszko Street Gary A. & Nancy E. Hosack 125 E. Dayton Street Garnette R. Horner and Ross J. Conkle 1125 E. Bissell Street Mattie Samuels/Mattie Mitchell 1613 S. Leer Street Lottie K. King This being the date set, bids for demolition of the following properties were opened. Non -collusion affidavits were found to be in proper -.order. The bids were as follows: 1934 NORTH MEADE STREET Midwest Demolition Corp. O'Neal Trucking Co. Vanek Excavating Co. Machinery Supply Co. Upon motion made, seconded and carried structure at 1934 N. Meade was awarded on its low bid of $217.00. 910 WEST WASHINGTON STREET $217.00 300.00 219.00 335.00 the contract for demolition of the to Midwest Demolition Corporation WAIMCO $1,439.00 Machinery Supply Co. 850.00 O'Neal Trucking Co. 929.00 Vanek Excavating Co. 1,428.00 Midwest Demolition Co. 870.00 Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board decided it would be in the best interest of the City to awardthe contract for the demolition of the structure at 910 West Washington Street to Midwest Demolition Company on its bid of $870.00. 813 South Bendix Drive Mr. Liszewski informed the Board that this building has been demolished by its owner and asked the Board to withhold opening the bids for demolition until he has had a chance to inspect the premises.
