January 17, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on January 17, 1972. Present were William J. Richardson, City Engineer <br />and James V. Barcome, City Controller. Minutes of the previous meeting were <br />reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />A letter was received from Stanley Sparazynski, Chairman of the Ball, requesting <br />permisstion to hold its Annual Fireman's Ball on March 24, 1972 at Stepan <br />Center on the Campus at Notre Dame. Upon-nmotion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the request was approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief Seals presented a letter wherin he requested permission for Sergeant <br />Kenneth Zeider to attend the Smith and Wesson Armorer's School being held <br />in Springfield, Massachusetts, January 24 through February 4. No tuition costs <br />would be required, however the City would be responsible for lodging, trans- <br />portation and per diem. Upon motion made, seconded and Unanimously carried, <br />the Board granted the request. <br />SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - DOROTHA PAXTON <br />r-4 <br />Chief seals recommended that Dorotha Paxton be granted a Special Police Com- <br />in mission. She will be employed at Cook's Discount Store. Upon motion made, <br />"4 seconded and carried the Board approved the commission subject to the receipt <br />of proper bond. <br />f3W LDING DEPARTMENT - SUB STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Mr. Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and <br />the following matters were discussed. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />the Sub -Standards Director for the following persons to appear before the <br />Board January 31, 1972 in reference to the sub -standard condition of the <br />following properties: <br />423 Kosciuszko Street Gary A. & Nancy E. Hosack <br />125 E. Dayton Street Garnette R. Horner and Ross J. Conkle <br />1125 E. Bissell Street Mattie Samuels/Mattie Mitchell <br />1613 S. Leer Street Lottie K. King <br />This being the date set, bids for demolition of the following properties <br />were opened. Non -collusion affidavits were found to be in proper -.order. The <br />bids were as follows: <br />1934 NORTH MEADE STREET <br />Midwest Demolition Corp. <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. <br />Vanek Excavating Co. <br />Machinery Supply Co. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried <br />structure at 1934 N. Meade was awarded <br />on its low bid of $217.00. <br />910 WEST WASHINGTON STREET <br />$217.00 <br />300.00 <br />219.00 <br />335.00 <br />the contract for demolition of the <br />to Midwest Demolition Corporation <br />WAIMCO $1,439.00 <br />Machinery Supply Co. 850.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co. 929.00 <br />Vanek Excavating Co. 1,428.00 <br />Midwest Demolition Co. 870.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board decided it would be in the <br />best interest of the City to awardthe contract for the demolition of the structure <br />at 910 West Washington Street to Midwest Demolition Company on its bid of $870.00. <br />813 South Bendix Drive <br />Mr. Liszewski informed the Board that this building has been demolished by its <br />owner and asked the Board to withhold opening the bids for demolition until he <br />has had a chance to inspect the premises. <br />
