January 10, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public !forks and Safety convened at <br />9:30 A.M. on January 10, 1972, with all members present. The minutes of <br />the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />Chief Bland presented the following letter for approval: <br />January 10, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Honorable Board Members: <br />I respectfully bring before this Board my recommendation that Richard <br />Brekrus be promoted from Private to Lieutenant on the South Bend Fire <br />Department, effective January 16, 1972. <br />He is presently serving in his capacity of Private at Engine #1, Central <br />Fire Station. <br />will appreciate your consideration of this matter. <br />Very truly yours, <br />(s) Jack R. Bland, Fire Chief <br />JRB/ss <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried the promotion of <br />Richard Brekrus from Private to Lieutenant was approved. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />A request was received from Division Chief Arsenault for Detective Sergeant <br />Armando Garcia to attend schooling being offered by the State Drug Training <br />Center at Bloomington, Indiana, January 17 through January 21, 1972. All <br />expenses to be paid by that organization. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the above request was <br />approved. <br />Chief Seals presented the following letter: <br />January 10, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />In the plans of this office regarding the continuing progress in areas of <br />integrity, credibility, morality and brotherhood as an ever -broadening base <br />of endeavor towards increased proficiency in all areas of accomplishment <br />within the sphere of law enforcement, the Police Department Chaplaincy is <br />viewed as irreplaceable. This request therefore respectfully asks the approval <br />of the Board of Public Works and Safety for the continuance of such activity <br />within the Police Department. <br />Emerging from the Police Chaplaincy, originally established several years <br />ago and composed of several clergymen of various faiths, Father Lallak,. <br />2120 E. Jefferson Boulevard, Pastor of St. Anthony Parrish, has remained <br />after all others found valid reasons for withdrawal and in that period of time <br />which has followed his single occupancy of this most necessary and valuable <br />post he has rendered service, to and through the Police Department, to the <br />community which has been of signal importance. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
