15(� December 20, 1971 - A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 A.M. on December 20, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the last two meetings were reviewed and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the appointment of John Ellis Davis to the South Bend Fire Department, upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat, effective December 20, 1971. POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENTS Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the following cadets were appointed to the South Bend Police Department upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, effective December 20, 1971: James Lynn Brunette John R. McCullum, Jr. Martin Lee Gersey Fred Arthur Preston Richard Roy Kilgore Larry J. Verash Eugene Kyle APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the application of Edward Charles Hermann for appointment as a special police officer at Feferman Motor Sales Corporation was referred to the Legal Department for recommendation to the Board. POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT Police Department statistical report for November, 1971, was reviewed and ordered filed. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the following matters were taken up: 1613 S. Carroll Street. Virgil Potter, owner, and Linda Hill, 240 E. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana; land contract buyer, appeared before the Board. Both agree the property must be demolished and stated they are waiting for a settlement with their insurance company aftera recent fire. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week. 7292 S. Rush Street. No one appeared on behalf of the St. Joseph County Commissioners as requested. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 7292 S. Rush Street. 1611 S. William Street. Charles W. Hahn, as trustee for Emil Weber, did not appear as requested. Mr. Liszewski reported the property vacant, open and vandalized. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried,- the Sub - Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 1611 S. William Street. 724 George Street. Harold C. Personette did riot appear as requested. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 724 George Street. 1215 Whiteman Court. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 1215 Whiteman Court. 736 N. Frances Street. Mr. Liszewski reported some work has been done, but the property mostly remains in about the same condition. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of 736 N. Frances Street was continued three weeks.
