15(� <br />December 20, 1971 - <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on December 20, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />last two meetings were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />appointment of John Ellis Davis to the South Bend Fire Department, upon the <br />recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat, effective December 20, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENTS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the following cadets <br />were appointed to the South Bend Police Department upon the recommendation <br />of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert, effective December 20, 1971: <br />James Lynn Brunette John R. McCullum, Jr. <br />Martin Lee Gersey Fred Arthur Preston <br />Richard Roy Kilgore Larry J. Verash <br />Eugene Kyle <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the application of Edward Charles <br />Hermann for appointment as a special police officer at Feferman Motor Sales <br />Corporation was referred to the Legal Department for recommendation to the <br />Board. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATISTICAL REPORT <br />Police Department statistical report for November, 1971, was reviewed and <br />ordered filed. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up: <br />1613 S. Carroll Street. Virgil Potter, owner, and Linda Hill, 240 E. Indiana <br />Avenue, South Bend, Indiana; land contract buyer, appeared before the Board. <br />Both agree the property must be demolished and stated they are waiting for a <br />settlement with their insurance company aftera recent fire. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />7292 S. Rush Street. No one appeared on behalf of the St. Joseph County <br />Commissioners as requested. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition <br />of the structure at 7292 S. Rush Street. <br />1611 S. William Street. Charles W. Hahn, as trustee for Emil Weber, did not <br />appear as requested. Mr. Liszewski reported the property vacant, open and <br />vandalized. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried,- the Sub - <br />Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure <br />at 1611 S. William Street. <br />724 George Street. Harold C. Personette did riot appear as requested. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director <br />was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 724 George <br />Street. <br />1215 Whiteman Court. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the <br />structure at 1215 Whiteman Court. <br />736 N. Frances Street. Mr. Liszewski reported some work has been done, but <br />the property mostly remains in about the same condition. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the matter of 736 N. Frances Street was continued <br />three weeks. <br />
