1.440 <br />December '6, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M., on December 6, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The following applications for appointment to the South Bend Fire Department <br />were filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director for further <br />processing: <br />Lonnie Eldred Whitlock <br />John Ellis Davies <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - SALE OF WRECKED VEHICLES FOR SALVAGE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />sale of two wrecked motor vehicles in the Police Department (namely, Unit <br />#16, 1971 Chevrolet four door sedan at $285.00 and Unit #18, 1971 Chevrolet <br />four door sedan at $200.00) to Super Auto Salvage, Inc., 3300 S. Main Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, such sale having been approved.by the Mayor, for a total <br />of $485.00. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />1308 S. Rush Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this property now rehabilitated. <br />1033 Hudson. Mrs. Robert Prue appeared before the Board and stated that while <br />the outside of this property has been improved, it still is not in an <br />acceptable condition. Mr. Liszewski stated the property is under surveillance <br />of the Sub -Standards Department and when the rehabilitation has been completed <br />it will be inspected for approval by the Sub -Standards Department. <br />519 E. Wenger (accessory building). A letter from Frederick L. Selby, 275 <br />Flamingo Drive, West Palm Beach, Florida, requesting the Sub -Standards <br />Director to contact the present owner, Mrs. Geneva Smallwood, in reference to <br />the property at 519 E. Wenger Street, was referred to the Sub -Standards De- <br />partment for appropriate action. <br />Demolition bids opened. <br />This being the date set, bids for demolition of the following structures were <br />opened. Non collusion affidavits were found to be proper. The bids were as <br />follows: <br />112 E. Ohio Street: <br />Machinery Supply Company $518.00 <br />Midwest Demolition Company 514.00 <br />B & J Demolition Company 421.00 <br />Vanek Excavating Company 410,00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Company 500.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, contract for demolition of the <br />structure at 112 E. Ohio Street was awarded to Vanek Excavating Company on its <br />low bid of $410.00. <br />613-615-617 W. LaSalle Street. Mr. Liszewski reported the owners of this <br />property have an offer of purchase and would like an extension of 30 days before <br />demolition contract is awarded. Thereupon, it was moved, seconded and <br />unanimously carried that bids for demolition of the structures at 613-615-617 <br />W. LaSalle Street be opened but held for one week.
