<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30
<br />A.M., with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were
<br />reviewed and approved.

<br />the Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune
<br />and the Tri County News on October 29 and November 5, 1971, which were found
<br />to be sufficient. Bids were received from the following companies and are
<br />tabulated in these minutes at page 136-A.
<br />Freeman Spicer Company, Inc., 520 S. Lafayette Street, South Bend, Indiana.
<br />The bid was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit and bid bond in the
<br />amount of 10% of the bid, which were found to be proper. The bids are on
<br />Plymouth Fury vehicles.
<br />Gates Chevrolet Corporation, 333 W. Western Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. The
<br />bid was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit and bid bond in the amount
<br />of 10% of the bid, which were found to be sufficient.
<br />Romy Hammes, Inc., 244 S. Olive Street, South Bend, Indiana. The bid was
<br />accompanied by a non collusion affidavit and bid bond in the amount of 10%
<br />of the bid, which were found to be sufficient. The bids are on Ford Torinos
<br />and Maverick vehicles.
<br />Don Medow American, Inc., 1935 Lincolnway East, South Bend, Indiana, 46613.
<br />The bid was accompanied by a non collusion affidavit and bid bond in the
<br />amount of 10% of the bid, which were found to be proper. The bids are on
<br />Matador vehicles.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to the
<br />Engineering Department for study and recommendation to the Board.
<br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - PROMOTIONS APPROVED
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the following promotions
<br />were approved, upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat:
<br />Lieutenant Marshall E. Brodbeck - to the rank of captain, effective 11/29/71.
<br />Fireman Jerry B. Kendall - to the rank of lieutenant, effective 11/29/71.
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - CRIME REPORT FOR OCTOBER, 1971
<br />Crime report of the Police Department for October, 1971, was reviewed and
<br />ordered filed.
<br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - GRADY L. THOMPSON
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the application of Grady L. Thompson
<br />for appdintment as a special police officer at Drewry's Limited, Inc., was
<br />referred to the Legal Department for recommendation to the Board.
<br />CONTRACT AWARDED - REMODEL POLICE DEPARTMENT INFORMATION CONTROL CENTER
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract was awarded to
<br />Harry H. Verkler, Contractor, Inc., for the remodeling of the information
<br />control center of the Police Department on its low bid of $2,685.00.
<br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION
<br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the
<br />following matters were taken up.
