October 12, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35 <br />A.M., on Tuesday, October 12, 1971, with all members present. The minutes <br />of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - SICK LEAVE, FIREMAN JACK BUKOWSKI <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat for a 30 day extension of sick leave for Fireman <br />Jack Bukowski. Lloyd S. Taylor abstained from voting. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the application of Joseph <br />Lee Schubert, Jr., for appointment as a special police officer for the Elks <br />Club<was referred to the Legal Department for review and recommendation. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up. <br />758 Lincolnway East. Neither Preston L. nor Josephine M. Hagey appeared as <br />requested. Mr. Liszewski reports no change in the appearance of the property. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director <br />was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 758 Lincolnway <br />East. <br />1350 E. Sorin Street. Alonzo Johnson did not appear as requested. Mr. Liszewski <br />reported a recent fire and the property in bad condition. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carrie,d the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids <br />for demolition of the structure at 1350 E. Sorin Street. <br />321 $. Laurel Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this property in bad condition; <br />that it has been secured and broken into over and over. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director was authorized <br />to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 321 S. Laurel Street. No <br />one appeared on behalf of the owner as requested. <br />1114 S. Main Street. Mr. Liszewski reported talking to Mrs. Helen Miller <br />personally, and that the owners are willing for the City to demolish the <br />property and that they will pay for the demolition when the structure has <br />been taken down. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the <br />Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the <br />structure at 111.4 S. Main Street. <br />1048 LaSalle Court. Neither Samuel Lee nor Ruth M. Diggins appeared as requested. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Sub -Standards Director <br />was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the structure at 1048 LaSalle <br />Court. <br />301 E. Broadway. Mr. Liszewski reported the owner of this property will de- <br />molish the structure himself. <br />119-245 de la Paix. Mr. Liszewski reported having been in contact with the <br />attorney for the owner and that -the property will be repaired. <br />122 S. Laurel Street. Mr. Liszewski reported this property in bad condition <br />and that it .is wide open. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />the Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the <br />structure at 112 S. Laurel Street. <br />Request of Sub -Standards Director for property owners to appear before <br />the Board 10/26/71_ <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the re- <br />quest of the Sub -Standard Director for the following persons to appear before <br />the Board on Tuesday, October 26, 1971, in reference to the sub -standard con- <br />dition of the following properties: <br />
